The Reds

The lead has gone from 16 to 6GB in about a month. Several of the Guardians firs or snd year guys who have been given regular playing time, seem to be getting more comfortable and experiencing more success so who knows. It is such a long season compared to anything else. Teams have good runs and bad runs several times each season.

Back to the Reds. Open a 4 game series at Pittsburgh. The Cowboy said yesterday that the Reds need at least 3 out of 4. I don’t know about that. I would like to get 3 out of 4 though.

On the road the reds are 27-29. At home the Pirates are much, much better than on the road. At home they are 32-27. Tonight’s pitching matchup is somewhat a mismatch as it is Paul Skenes vs Brady Singer ( Although Singer is 9-8 and Skenes 6-8). Another big factor is that the Pirates have been dominating the Reds in Pittsburgh for several year. In the Reds favor is that we added 3 roster player and the Pirates sold off a closer and a SP at the trade deadline.

7-0 loss against a triple a pirates team. Get it together you schizophrenic bums

Any talk about the playoffs with this team is silly

I didn’t expect the Reds to beat Skenes. However, damn well better win the next 3.

For a few months now the Pirates have been a good team at home and not much better than the Rockies on the road. Pirates have a team well designed for their park. Getting to their bullpen is the key to beating them, plus they are good at taking walks and getting some big innings because of that. Reds pitching certainly played into their hands yesterday.

The Reds had the unfortunate luck of not only seeing Skenes, but seeing Skenes on a day where he actually got some run support (which is quite rare).

I think this was 5th straight start at home with no earned runs given. Teams that have beaten him this year have worked his pitch count and gotten him out of the game before the 6th. We got some hits but did not push his pitch count or string anything together.

Sounds right. And several of those are no decisions or maybe even a loss on 1 or 2 unearned runs.

The moral of the story is… the Pirates f*cking suck.

Awesome news! We lost again to a pathetic Pirates team which means we lose the series. WTF. Just dumpy.

It’s a 4-game series with the Pirates

So you’re telling me there’s a chance…

Yes the Reds definitely have a chance to play the rest of the games on their schedule. Beyond that no chance.

Perhaps the next time the Reds are offered a game at a NASCAR track they should pass!
( no pun intended)

Pirates and Reds are both 7 games above .500 at home. Pirates have also been playing above .500 for 2 or 3 months now after a horrible start to the season. We could really use a 2-2 split in this series to have a 4-3 road trip. Also, the struggling Mets (1-9) have fallen behind the Padres and now are the team we are chasing for that final Wildcard spot.

Meanwhile , in the AL the Guardians have gone 18 -6 since just before the All Star break and are now just half a game behind the stumbling Yankees for the final AL wild card spot. The Tigers seem to have stabilized themselves and are 6-4 in their last 10. Their lead over the Guardians in the division has shrunk from 16 to 6.

I hope Ohio gets two teams in the playoffs. The Reds haven’t won a playoff series (including multiple one gamers) since1995. That needs to change soon.

I don’t see Castellini investing a ton into the team with a potential lockout/strike looming after next season. The DeWitts are looking to cut the Cardinals payroll again this offseason, other owners probably aren’t alone.

It’s sounds like the Dewitt’s are at their Dewitt’s end.

(Mmm…something’s cooking!!! I smell excellence.)

Holy crap. We won two in a row against a solid Phillies team? This Reds squad is something else…

Can’t wait for them to take 2 of 3 against this amazing Brewers team, and then lose when they play the Angels. Seriously, this team seems like it can hang with any team in baseball, and then they play lower level teams and they don’t play with the same intensity or something.

This weekend’s series against the Brewers, coming to town on a 12 game win streak, should make for some interesting baseball. And looking at the standings, the Padres, who once seemed like the team the Reds would have to pass in order to take the final wildcard spot, have passed the Dodgers and taken the lead in the NL West. The Dodgers are currently 4.5 games ahead of the Reds, but thankfully (sorry to any fans of them), the Mets have fallen on hard times and now only lead the final WC spot by one game.

Lastly, I was lukewarm on the trade deadline acquisitions. It seemed like they were barely improving the team. Hayes plays great D, but can’t hit. Andujar hasn’t been anything special for years, Littell didn’t seem a good fit at GABP. But so far the contributions from these three players have been amazing. Hayes has been hitting better, with more line drives and fewer ground balls thanks to some minor adjustments. Littell has been solid in his starts, and hasn’t been plagued with the homerun ball the way he was in Tampa while playing in a literal minor league park. But Andujar has helped transform this lineup. The team had no threats against LH pitchers, which has been his specialty throughout his career. Since the trade, he has feasted in the 4 hole against lefties, and the Reds just beat two of the leagues best in the last two days with major damage being done by Andujar. (3/8, 2 HRs and 5 RBIs)

Go Reds
