The Reds

Chase Burns is going to be up against his innings limit soon (probably about 30 remaining). I think ideally Greene takes his spot in the rotation and Burns finishes the season in the bullpen, they could use the extra arm and his strikeout stuff would be really effective.

Other option there would be to start Burns, have him go 2-3 innings, and piggyback with Martinez.

I have only three untouchables as far as Reds propects: Burns, Lowder, Stewart. Beyond that, I would be open to discuss if the return is right.

I pretty much agree except I’m so tired of losing seasons, I might just go for broke. Still remains to be seen if we will stay in the hunt. Dodgers are good though and we almost had one last night.

Ke’Bryan Hayes…he can’t hit.

Taylor rogers and a prospect back to Pittsburgh

Yeah, but this ballpark is a hitters park, Pittsburgh is very much a pitchers park, especially for right hand hitters.

Yeah, after I posted that I found out that Hunter Greene finally made the long forecast rehab start, so now it is possible for him to be back shortly. Good.

Suarez is back in the lineup today, but since we just got our 3B I think we are looking at a RH hitting guy who could play RF. Ramon Laureano is available, low salary, has been very hot lately and he is sitting out today which leads me to think he is going to be traded, Orioles will want prospects but can’t expect much of a haul for Laureano, but he has actually been playing great for quite awhile. You never know about a guy like that. Andrew Vaughn has sucked for two years with the White Sox and he has just been on fire since getting traded to Milwaukee. 19 games and hitting .375 with 24 RBI’s. Meanwhile future hall of Famer Rafael Devers has sucked with the Giants and the team has continued its plunge from about 20 games over back to .500. We may get great production out of Hayes and Laureano? Plus they are both very good defenders and probably upgrade us there. Maybe Marte would DH.

That, I can assure you, is not what is holding Hayes back offensively. He is a stud defensively who can’t hit his way out of a paper bag. He also gets hurt a lot. I am very quick to attribute every Pirate trade of a guy signed long term to the owner being cheap, but this one probably makes sense.

Are those prospects anything good?

Stafura was in the Reds top 10. Drafted out of HS and in his second minor league season, he’s still in low A. He’s athletic and has shown an ability to get on base but has not hit overly well.

Rodgers is a 35 year old journyman reliever.

I don’t see this moving the bar much, but they didn’t have to give up much. On the plus side, he is an outstanding fielder and a team friendly contract through 2029. To me, a “meh” to “not bad” trade. For what it is.worth or not worth, ESPN gave the Reds a C- for this trade. To me the Reds got a lesser hitting Aurelio Rodriquez, for you old coots out there!

Reds still need an OF bat.

MLB is now saying the Reds targets are Suarez and Laureano. With the pickup of Hayes that would make Eugenio a fulltime DH.

I wonder what Steve Kwan would cost? Cleveland actively looking to move him. 2028 UFA.

Just saw Cleveland wanted Stewart, Lowder, and Stafura, causing the Reds to pivot to Hayes.

I’m not giving them Stewart and Lowder. They are 2 of the 3 on my no trade list.

Now being reported as I said from the beginning, Suarez to the Mariners.

Reds acquire Zach Litell from Tampa Bay per Jeff Passan. I could see Litell replacing Martinez in the rotation and the Reds make Martinez long relief or look to trade him. Overall taking into account what the Reds have given up I like both moves. Solid B so far at the trade deadline.

Littell should definitely move right into the rotation, but for Burns, not Martinez. Martinez is doing good work right now, Burns is not. Littell is 29 years old and is 8-8 this year with a 3.58 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP. He is a control pitcher, not a strikeout guy. 133 innings, 89 K’s to only 21 walks. He pitched 5 shut out innings last night at Yankee Stadium.

I think burns will be great but not at all close right now. Your suggestion makes sense. Our pitching coach is solid and will get his era down
