Taking the first two games in Queens coming out of the break makes things look a bit brighter. They’re only two back in the wild card now.

It is a long, long season and even the best teams have bad runs during the season.
I’m honestly stunned we are 4 over but I’ll take it. Reds have the ability to beat really good teams and then lose the next night to terrible ones. I think we feel a bit more consistent with Tito though even if just a little. Maybe that’ll be enough

Reds fans know the front office will do very little to improve the team at the trade deadline. At best they’ll trade for a borderline player or two, and might still trade away key pieces as well.
The bullpen is not deep and I feel their best arms will be worn out by mid-August. My guess is that Krall/Meador were hoping that 1 or 2 of the flamethrowers in Louisville (Mey, Phillips, Maxwell) would’ve been ready for MLB by now, but none of them are. I could see them moving Chase Burns to the pen if/when Greene returns since Burns is on an innings limit.
Moving Marte to OF is interesting. He was having defensive issues at 3b, mostly with throws to 1st, but is a very good athlete with a strong arm. That opens up 3b for Sal Stewart in the near (but not too near) future.
There are too many teams still in the NL race for me to think the Reds will get a wild card. At least one of the other teams will go for it and bring in some big pieces in the next 10 days, and the Reds won’t.
Here is one proposal, and it won’t be cheap because he has multiple years of team control left on a very team friendly contract, but it would solve both the RF problem, and giving the Reds the impact bat they need: Ronald Acuna. He won’t come cheap, it will cost the Reds prospects, but if they seriously want to contend, this trade would go a long way towards that.
Solution #2 and perhaps a little cheaper: Bryan Buxton of the Twins.
ESPN suggested it would take Lowder, Petty and Sal Stewart to land Buxton.
Doesn’t Buxton have a no trade clause?
Brady Singer is a major disappointment. That’s all.
I would maybe do that for Acuna but not Buxton.

He’s had some real clunkers in there but generally keeps the team in the game, certainly not great but arguably serviceable as a fifth starter. The biggest outlier in his numbers is allowing about 8% more fly balls than he historically has. His home numbers are actually better than his road so can’t blame the park.
But he’s outperforming India by nearly a full point in WAR, so a trade win?

Because the haul will be tremendous. That is why. And they are not in the playoff hunt. Why does anyone trade players this time of year.
ERA approaching 5.00. WHIP of 1.388. Reds are 1-4 in his last 5 starts. Granted, he is not responsible for generating offense. but he is simply not good.
