Based on what has been reported so far, I don’t think civil liability is Powers’s chief concern.
Inexcusable that any D1 athletic program doesn’t have trained medical personal at every workout (athletic trainers), an emergency action plan in place and practiced before any activities occur, university strength and conditioning coach supervising workouts, a heat related plan and guidelines as when it’s too hot to be outside and if allowed to be outside at what intervals are water breaks needed and how many/often, the workout/plan approved by the athletic trainer and strength coach prior, proper hydration and cooling stations in place, proper pre workout hydration protocols put in place. I could go on with the failures and I’m sure could fine a lot more if I knew all the detsils.
I hate these kids have lost a friend and teamate. I hate this kids parents have lost a child. I fully support the players if they refuse to play for this coach, he clearly doesn’t care about his players and their well being. ASU failed these kids and Mayich. At the least the coaches, athletic trainers and administration are negligent and none of them should be in a leadership position ever again. Administrators failed to properly supervisw and provide oversight Criminal charges should probably be explored.
Former Redhawk player Jimmy Mullins is an assistant coach at ASU this year. Let’s hope for his sake he had no hand in this debacle
Wow. That was damning.
“The session continued after some of us showed signs of distress, including
dropping to a knee, vomiting and, in Matthew’s case, visible disorientation well
before the final task.”
I currently own 100% of the tickets sold for the games at Stonehill. And by “at Stonehill” I mean “at the Bruins’ practice facility.”
ASU hockey coach is now on leave pending more investigations. I would wager he’s done for good.
I’d hope so. Trying to act out Junction Boys 60+ years later is dumb.
Who was named interim coach at ASU?
Only received 11 votes this week in the USCHO poll
Deserved less after fist 2 games.
It’s weird that my first college hockey game of the season doesn’t involve Miami but it’s not a bad way to spend a bye week.
Went to Gatineau, Quebec, last weekend and saw Maxim Dube play. He’s playing on the top line, but that night his line didn’t do much the first 58 minutes. However, he assisted on the game-tying goal late and scored the game winner in OT.
He’s 18 now and is supposed to come in next season. He can get a lot on his shot without a lot of effort, so he can generate offense without a ton of space.
In seven games with the Olympiques, he’s already 5-5-10. Excited to see him in Oxford.
Game ended in a 2-2 tie. RIT won the shootout. The goalie had 50 saves but a crazy ending to regulation as UMass tied it with 0.5 on the clock. A UMass transfer scored the first RIT goal in the shootout, which I thought was hilarious.
But the real highlight…
Also went to the game. UMass like most hockey east teams is so overrated. When AHA bottom feeder RIT is playing you tough and you got smoked by a lower team in the NCHC the previous weekend you are completely overrated and it showed on the ice. They were big and decent speed, not overly skilled. Not impressed.
I remember you telling Ohio State fans to spell Massachusetts at Goggin. I say you try it at UMass. ![]()
Can’t deny he’s your kid Chuck….
Rumor I’m seeing on social media is that they’re gonna hire Dave Hakstol as the interim for the season.
