The 2024-25 season regular season thread

YES!

This speaks volumes of the immediate future of Miami Hockey!( the elite prospects coming to Miami).

I really don’t have high hopes for this season. Noreen seems to be pleased with how things are going, but it will take a while to build the quality depth needed to make noise in the NCHC. Have enjoyed hearing him talk, and I do believe much better days are ahead.

Asked my 12 yo daughter if she wanted to go to the game Saturday, and her response “Are they playing somebody good?” is an accurate barometer of recent history. Maybe in a year or so it won’t matter who the opponent is…

Curious. Did she mean if it was somebody good she didn’t want to see us get drilled or did she mean she just wanted to see if we could actually beat a good team? In recent seasons playing someone good has not been an enjoyable night. Curious if attitudes are changing.

Great question. I did not ask her to clarify, and I could see both being a possibility. I’d guess she wants to see Miami win as she’s not really a hockey fan, but enjoys going to Miami’s campus.

Follow up: My daughter said she wants to see Miami win. Also, she says she really likes watching hockey, so it’s just not the college campus trip she looks forward to.

Pinball at MAC n Joes was always a plus when our kids were around 12-15.

He stands out on the highlights.

Lindenwood, our opponent in a couple of weeks, beat Wisconsin in Madison last night.

Lindenwood…Sounds like a fictional prep school where a band of misfits and social outcasts slowly become friends while learning their teacher isn’t a bad guy. For some reason Paul Giamatti is in it.

Wisconsin beat Lindenwood tonight but it went to OT.

Saw the Omaha Lancers have a block ‘M’ next to David Deputy, who is a favorite of law enforcement everywhere and scored 18 goals in the USHL last season. 5 GP, 1-0-1 in 2024-25.

I trust the USHL line charts over Eliteprospects, since they’re all about scholarships, which has him committed to RIT.

That would make 23 commits, 15 in the USHL.

Make it 24/16. Just posted in the last hour…

Youngstown Phantoms on X: “Congratulations to Cal Huston on his commitment to Miami University! #YoungstownPhantoms | #ItStartsHere https://t.co/j5sjEijNcc” / X

"Huston played for the Phantoms Youth Hockey Association. During that time, he had a chance to learn from players who were with the USHL-based Phantoms. He was also close with Anthony Noreen, who was the coach and general manager of the Phantoms from 2011-15 who now serves as the head coach at Miami University of Ohio.

“I got to meet him, go in the locker room, meet all the guys and practice with them,” Huston said. “Buddying up with some of those older guys and them just showing me the right ways. Honestly, that’s helped me a ton in my career and allowed me to find the success and prosperity that I’ve found today.”
