QB sneak with our 220 pound QB with the two largest people on the team right behind him pushing him forward at the snap. They would push him in the tush.
Tbh, I would have done that on 2nd down instead of a shotgun inside zone play. I would have done that on 3rd down instead of the wildcat look we showed twice in a row (because we couldnt get lined up and had to take a TO). I would have done that on 4th down instead of kicking an 18 yard FG.
Its a rivalry game and you’re on the 1-2 yard line. Show some confidence in your offense. Show some toughness.
It was weak. It was soft. It told UC we didnt think we could get a yard when we needed it.

Didn’t the field goal put us up by two scores? Odds say go up by two scores right?
What’s wrong with that? He was 0 for 3 from the two. Undoubtedly running what he thought were his best 3 (agree with the calls or not) chances to score. Do you chance going 0 for 4 or go up two scores?
Call me football dumb but think that was the right call. Now it’s time to retire the f’in rpo.

I understand the frustration.
I would have liked to see some type of play action roll out with an option one of those downs.
As to trying the QB tush push I think you have to give Chuck some grace.
How many snaps has McComb taken right behind center? Close to zero.
I also have to think that he had to also been thinking of what happened to Brett Gabbert in a similar situation a couple of years ago. Does he want to risk his promising freshman QB in a pile up at the goal line?
To your last point…. It’s still football. If a QB sneak is the best call, you do it. Every play brings a risk of injury.
Though I’m generally more irritated by runs out of shotgun.

Yeah to Daverama’s point, I didn’t have as much of a problem w the FG’s…it’s the lousy play calls beforehand that made them an option ;or a necessity).
After the devastating bad call on the chop block (that isn’t called and I think we score a TD and the game would have been over), we were pushed back to something like 2nd and 25. Our QB completes a pass to get it to 3rd and 12. And then instead of throwing for the first down or into the end zone we run a lackluster run up the gut for 2 yards. Then we have the “Lucy pulls the football out for Charlie Brown” placement and the missed FG. Playing to win and trust in your very good QB would have been to go for the jugular and pass for the end zone on 3rd down. If it’s incomplete, you try for the FG.
You guys have already well covered the debacle on the one yard line later in the game. Stupid play calls.
P.S. I realize that many of us are focusing on the half that cost us the game, not our excellent first half. But that made the 2nd half collapse even more excruciating, especially for long suffering fans that have seen this play out before.

I totally understand the Gabert injury reference - Gabert was injury prone and not 6:4 ?220 ibs. like Mc Call. If not Mc Call under center put Jones under center. We have had problems scoring inside the five yard line for years. Again this gets back to game approach and game day coaching. Whether you agree or not with many ( if not most ) of the critical posts on this site the facts speak for themselves . CM and his long time assistant coaching buddies have not gotten the job done - our terrible OCC record and the decreasing attendance/ support for Miami football are hard cold facts.

@Cincykid3 Good call on running up the middle on 3rd & 12. The correct call, as you said, is to throw to the end zone and kick the FG if you’re not successful. Especially with with an OL that can’t run block. We need a young, innovative offensive minded coach.

Chuck prides himself on special teams but I remember the holding being poor last year and is bad again this year. Eventually Chuck needs to change the holder if he isn’t improving
Not to call out one player, but that looked like a middle school thing where you are afraid the kicker will miss the ball and kicking your hand instead.

Put Jones under center? When has he ever taken a snap under center especially in a pressure situation?
It seems like our special teams is great until it’s a big moment. Only part of our special teams was fantastic yesterday. FG kicking was not. Last time we played UC in Oxford we botched a punt too…
