Sacramento State applies to FBS

I want to just throw this out there. If Sacramento State was such a valuable commodity either as a program or the $15 million buying in, why didn’t they go to the Mountain West Conference ? Why didn’t the MWC want them?

I think the MAC is adding whoever they can knowing full well one or two football programs may abandon FBS football in the near future.

Once the new arena is announced/built, we will be well positioned for the massive wave of realignment after the ACC likely crumbles in 5-7 years…who knows how the chips will fall, but we’ll be sought after.

Assuming that is the case, and I believe you are correct on the motivation, wouldn’t some combination of Delaware, WKU and/or MTSU make infinite more sense then Sac State even if they don’t bring 15 million?

Not just the ACC. All conferences not named SEc or B10+? will change. I honestly think the PAC12 will re-emerge before 2030

In a 14 team league with 8 conference games, the math says you play each team on the road every 3.25 years. So each MAC school gets $1.25mil in exchange for flying to Sacramento once every 3.25 years? What is the incremental cost of flying our travel party to Sacramento versus bussing/flying to another MAC road game? Maybe an extra $50-100k per trip? So we get $1.25 million now and have to spend an extra $250k over the next 10 years?

Outside of the fact this seems like an odd school to add, it seems like a good financial deal to add them for football only.

I think this is the right way to think of it. Weird? Yeah this is weird. But $$$ and Sac State is an interesting program with some momentum behind it. I think this is a lot more interesting than adding MTSU.

It will ruin the prestigious Red Bird Rivalry because Ball State and Sacramento State will now play the final game of every season for the Ball-Sac Cup.

This is not going to happen with Sac St.

Miami might leave for the American, but that is about it, ACC is out of reach for us at the moment. Any movement for Miami means substantial increase in budget, not sure where that comes from? Higher revenue will follow but not enough to cover the expense, will be the state to assist?

MAC will have a hard time expanding, just doesn’t make financial sense. Great conference just doesn’t have the financials to be a landing place.

I’d still like to see a MAC-Sunbelt pact.

I think that is a great move for the MAC, just merge, keep it the same and have a championship game between the two divisions f/k/a conferences. Super Mid major conference might get some more $ appeal?

One crossover game every season.

I’ll take my $4 check now MACTION. You weren’t signatory to the comedic nafta pact.

Pay up!

I don’t know how the revenue numbers work, but Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto would be the third largest TV market in the MAC (behind Detroit and Cleveland-Akron).

Also 31k students so a big school with a lot of alumni

I know this sounds like football-only, but I had no clue that Mike Bibby was their basketball coach.

And Shaq is the GM!

No deal, howie

Yeah they’ve spent a ton of money on that team and the promotion of that team… and the team still sucks.
