Let’s hope he gets top 3 Cy Young this year and the team gets an extra pick at the end of the 1st round in the draft. There’s also a slight chance Sal gets another pick if he wins NL rookie of the year, though Wetherholt of the Cards is making that less likely without some major slump from him or a major surge from Sal. The positional adjustment and stellar defense have JJ Wetherholt at 5 WAR compared to Sal’s 2 WAR, even while Sal has better offensive numbers.

You are correct, I was unaware. Hopefully they get one. Do you also happen to know how the competitive balance picks are chosen? The Reds haven’t had a round 1 (comp pick A) since like 2022. I know it’s chosen from the 10 lowest revenue and 10 smallest market teams, seems like that should be in the Reds favor. Could we end up with a type A and a PPI pick?
I don’t know if MLB has every divulged the full formula but it’s winning %, market size and revenue. The Reds have probably won too much to get an A pick.
If Martin pulled that against the Cards when Bob Gibson were pitching, Martin would have been nailed but good when he came to bat.
That makes sense, I’ve searched in the last and never found an answer, now I know that the answer isn’t public.
Another “lost cause” season it would seem. Despite hitting quite a few homers as a team, the horrendous team batting average and inability to knock in runs caught up to them as soon as the pitching staff could not maintain its promising start to make up for the lack of run production.
Suarez has been a pretty big disappointment as well among others such as McLain. And Marte still can’t seem to be capable of hitting big league pitching.
He can hit MLB pitches that are strikes, but pitchers know he will chase everything and don’t give him anything good to hit:

I believe Friedl’s poor play forced them into bringing Marte back up too soon. When he was sent down in April part of it was for him to make adjustments to his approach at the plate to be more selective. He was hitting well at AAA but that doesn’t mean much and based on his approach when he returned it looked like not much had changed. Lately it seemed like he was regressing even further.

Marte is an elite hitter on fastballs but dreadful against anything else.

Tito’s other comments to the press sound like there’s still some work ethic issues as well.
Sal Stewart pretty much the only consistent hitter for the Reds this year…Elly was hitting well most of the season but has slumped a little as of late. When you look at the line up card each day, it’s pretty painful to see so many players hitting below or just above the .200 mark.
Elly had a similar drop off in August in nearly every year of his young career. His 2024 numbers dipped but not nearly as much as the other years.
