RedHawks Open the Season At Coastal Carolina

Miami Women’s Basketball opens the season at Coastal Carolina, Nov 3. Coastal is picked for 6th in the Sun Belt. Last year, Coastal went 23-9 and went to the WNIT. But they lost their top 2 scorers to the portal. Their top returning player is guard Kristin Williams who averaged almost 11ppg last year. This is one of two games in the MAC/Sun Belt challenge for Miami. The other will be at home against a team to be determined, in the middle of MAC play. Miami’s starting lineup:

PG Tamar Singer

G Amber Scalia

G Clara Gonzalez Planella

F Amber Trettter

F Ilse Devries

Miami Game Notes can be found here:

Coastal has former Miami player Hennessey Lu Brown on the roster.

And for those not familiar with newcomer Amber Scalia, she is a scorer. Averaged over 14ppg last year at St. Thomas in the Summit League. And Clara Gonzalez Panella was 6th Man of the Year at Jax State in the Sun Belt last year. Those are just two of the new names with significant DI experience Glenn Box brought in.

Here are Coastal Carolina’s game notes:

Their starting lineup goes 5’8”, 5’9”, 5’10”, 6’2”, 6’2”.

Led by 5’8” senior Kristin Williams who averaged 10.8ppg last year. They have 7 new transfers, and 3 freshman, one of who is from Medina, Ohio. Like Miami, they only have a roster of 12.

And 6’2” senior starting post Tessa Grady is from Dublin, Ohio.

Bought a ticket this morning! Going to drive down - just a hour and fifteen minutes - for the game in Conway. Anyone else on the board going?

Let’s get ready to rock!!

Ashton Elley not dressed tonight. Something I was asked not to divulge.

Glenn already has subbed 4 two minutes in. He will substitute in waves. Miami cold early and sloppy

9-7 Miami midway through first quarter

About 10-12 of us here to support our RedHawks. All of us right behind the Miami bench.

This is the most uptempo Miami team I have seen in a long time.

Right now Miami is being beaten at its own game. Miami is fast, Coastal is faster and executing better. Miami hasn’t scored in over 2 minutes.

All 4 mac sbc challenge games that have started the mac team is trailing early

18-14 Coastal after one.

Miami trailing in shot attemps 18-11. Down 11-7 on the boards, and down 4-2 in turnovers. Lots to clean up. 7 of Miami shots are three pointers and they have only made 1.

The pressure by Coastal is causing us a lot of problems.

21-20 Coastal at the under 5 minute TO. Sloppy all around.
