RedHawks Open MAC Tournament on Wednesday Versus KSU

The new season begins!!

The Miami women’s basketball team heads to Cleveland for the 2026 Mid-American Conference Tournament as the league’s No. 1 seed. The RedHawks are scheduled to face No. 8 Kent State on Wednesday, March 11 at 11 a.m.

Miami took home six post-season awards on Tuesday morning. Glenn Box was named MAC Coach of the Year (first Miami CoY since 2004). Amber Tretter (first team), Tamar Singer (third team) and Ilse de Vries (third team) earned All-MAC accolades and Singer and de Vries added spots on the All-MAC Defensive Team.

Miami is 2-0 versus Kent State this season, capturing a 67-63 road win back on Dec. 20 and clinched the MAC regular season title versus the Flashes at home on March 4 (71-52). In two games this season. Kent State is 15-15 overall and 9-9 in conference play. Offensively, Mya Babbitt (16.2 ppg.) and Janae Tyler (10.5 ppg.) lead the way.

I tell all the alumni I talk to who have a recently rejuvenated interest in Miami sports to watch this team. Uphill battle on that, but I’m trying.

9-6 Miami at first timeout. Miami playing better than last game (they couldn’t be worse!) but Kent also playing better than their last game against Miami. Jurjo will be shooting 2 FT out of the timeout.

25-15 after one.

Miami up 25-15 after 1st quarter. Miami finished on a 11-0 run. Singer gets a layup as the clock expired. Miami has had a few defensive lapses that allowed Kent to take the lead 15-14. Singer has 6. Jurjo and Scalia 5 each. Singer 3 assists and 1 steal. Miami with only 2 turnovers (Devries and Tretter) so much better than the turnover fest that was last game. Miami just needs to clean up the D a little.

Timeout for a review. Miami D solid, but offense a bit cold with only Singer scoring in 2nd quarter. 27-18. Sometimes Planella and Jurjo play to fast and force action offensively when it doesn’t need to be. What I like about Miami today offensively is they are playing for the most part under control. Something lacking last game.

Miami with 4 turnovers 2nd quarter. Not good.

Miami up 36-22 at the half. The good Singer with 14. The bad Singer with 3 turnovers 2nd quarter, has 4 assists. Also bad, Miami has 8 turnovers, 6 that half. The good, Miami D picked up. Jurjo though lost her composure and Box invited her to sit. If Miami plays under control as we have done most of the game, we will win by double digits. Miami only shooting 39% but Kent only shooting 23%. Singer 6-9 from the field and one of those misses was having to shoot a three at the buzzer as Miami inbounded with 3 seconds on shot clock.

Where’s Golden for this thread? Sexist?

Miami up 14 and Tretter only has 2 points on 1-5 shooting. That should improve second half.

It’s just now noon in the eastern time zone, so he’s probably just waking up.

Very poor start for Miami to 2nd half. 2 turnovers (Scalia and Jurjo), Tretter picks up 3rd foul. It is a 9 point game.

38-29 Miami media timeout. The very bad-Tretter has 4 fouls. The bad-Miami can’t get in sync on offense and defense not much better. The key to winning in women’s basketball is to be up 10 or more heading into the 4th quarter. 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter but Miami needs to get out of the second half funk. Credit Kent’s defense for creating that funk. Kent to shoot 2 FT out of the time so could be down to 7 point lead. Kent also pushing the ball inside and Miami keeps obliging by sending a very good FT shooting Kent team (78%) to the line.

Man, the offense is only scoring on the right side….Kent D isn’t having to work hard enough.

Flagrant 1 for the ellbow on KSU

That’s an ejection IDGAF.

Well not a good quarter for Miami. Headed to the 4th quarter Miami 47-42. Singer leads with 21. But the rest of the team needs to get going from the beginning of 4th quarter. And Planella got literally punched in the face. That shouldn’t have been flagrant 1. That should have been ejection. Tretter with 4 fouls sat most of 3rd quarter. Miami has to execute.

Miami has been outscored 27-22 in the 2nd and 3rd quarter combined. That is obviously not good. 11 points each quarter. Generally don’t win games scoring 11 a quarter.
