For RedHawk DB Raion Strader with an interception for Pitt last night against Syracuse. He was at Auburn last year.
He also plays 5 or fewer yards off his opponent…so his tighter coverage enables him to get more opportunities for picks.
Be nice if Miami’s current corners played that way.
I have never understood The Buffer Buffet. Pitt feasted on it all game as does every opponent. Like why not start up close and if you get burned deep, you can then go back to it. But otherwise it keeps the D on the field way too long.
Great comments re our entire approach to the game under CM- play not to lose. Our DB’s and safeties generally play a soft zone keeping the receiver in front of them. We play 10 + yards off the other team’s wide outs - short out routes open all day. We seldom play the thrown ball - we wait until the catch is made in front of us and go for the tackle. Our man defense is not good. I watched the Pitt- Syracuse game last night and it was interesting how much more effective Syracuse’s DB 's were v Pitt than our DB’s - they played tight and played the ball. I cannot believe there is that much of a talent gap between Syracuse personnel and our players. Again this discussion gets back to what is your approach to the game. CM goes for chunk offensive plays with very little rhythm or ball possession game plan approach on offense. Our D units are often on the field too long . His approach generally on D is to give up long drives hoping the other team makes mistakes. This approach can work generally in the MAC with weaker competition but not against stronger teams esp OCC games.
The soft corner play I just don’t understand. We’re not covering Jamar Chase! We line up 8-10 yards off the line and then their first 3-4 steps are backwards. Seems like we even do it in short yardage situations. Just don’t get it???
Cole Weaver 2 receptions for 9 yards for the game.
5 receptions in 3 games for 41 yards.
I hope the money was worth it.
I agree under CM we always play that way. When we played Randy Moss we had two DBs on either side of him and popped him hard every play, he did nothing against us the game we kicked their ass.
