Rage against the G6

The rage against the G6 by the big boys and the pundits who make a living off them is at an all-time high this week. JMU, Tulane and the entire G6 are being disparaged as frauds - basically armed masked intruders.

Getting two G6 teams into the playoffs at the expense of Notre Dame, Vanderbilt and Texas has triggered a backlash that will finally give the Power 4 the cover needed to separate themselves from the G6.

I’m going out on a limb. I predict that in the next three years, conference championship games will either be eliminated or become tournament play-in games, G4 teams will no longer play FCS opponents but will play three OOC games a year (two against G6 teams), and the G6 will have its own 16 team playoff.

Read an article today that said the very same thing, and suggested that the big Boyz buy off the G conferences w more $$ to avoid lawsuits.

They made these damn rules.

The worst part about it is it won’t even stop at the G6. In reality the ACC is only slightly better than the AAC and Big 12 just above that. Eventually we’ll get to a spot where all that matters is just the B1G and SEC along with Notre Dame. Everything else will be relegated to being treated as a second division

I am not sure that is worse. That would be better. Having us in the same division as Syracuse and Cincinnati is way better than having us relegated to FCS

I also think traditional bowl games will be used as playoff games for the G6 playoff.

And they can change them anytime they want.

G5 need to break away from P4. End the farce.

Writing is kind of on the wall. Might be time for P2/4 National Champion, G5/6/7 National Champion and FCS National Champion.

The big problem though, if that definite split happens, will there by TV money to support “G” level football anymore??

=>It’s called dropped down to FCS.

Interesting idea here.

At least we get some respect as does Toledo. Everyone else in MAC goes FCS I guess.

The path to the Rose Bowl is clear.

Been saying this for a while. Create a newly named division, setup strict financial parameters and other operational regulations. Invite any current G6 + FCS schools that can compete within the guidelines. Compete in a 16 or 32-team tourney for a title.

This will ultimately occur when the B1G and SEC separate in the next 5 years or so. Two G5 teams making the playoff and not being remotely competitive will kick start the process (if that does occur in a couple weeks).

I think the only long term remaining question is does this inevitable split result in the total separation of professional collegiate sports from the NCAA (so all the big boys have their own basketball tournament too and the NCAA tournament is basically the rest of D1 maybe combined with some D2 that want to move up) or do the B1G and SEC see value in stay associated with the NCAA for other sports.

The Big 10 and SEC just need to go away and let the get on with existing. Texas puts a toddler who wants to watch Bluey but can’t because it’s not on to shame. don’t loose 3 games. Notre Dame just needs to join a conference. But really, the Big 20 and SEac just need to take their talents to Doha….

I think it’s inevitable as far as a championship is concerned. The key point, as always, is how much CFB $ the G6 gets to “go away.”

Funny they don’t list the powerhouse known as Northern Illinois.

Big mistake to miss out on the ‘Northern Illinois Chicago TV Market’
