The reality is that Akron is a better team. That doesn’t mean we can’t beat them and doesn’t mean we won’t in March, but all the computer rankings and the eye test has said that was probably the case.

That doesn’t mean we can’t still get a bye in Cleveland and make a run. We’ll have alot of tape on things to fix (just pick any play basically)

Fair point, Hoosier. I did look over the kenpom ratings last night, and Akron was about 50 spots ahead of us, which surprised me a bit. But Pomeroy’s algorithm seems to be accurate in this case.

Someone pointed out in the other thread how professional Bake is in contrast to many of the other MAC crews (Ball State was also very good, as usual).

This Akron crew is really demonstrating that. Given their level of program, you’d think they’d have better

They certainly aren’t 35 points better but they are a ROUGH matchup. They do what we do and do it better. They are also bigger and more physical. I do not want to see them in Cleveland.

We will need to regroup after today but we absolutely can finish 2nd or 3rd and if Akron finishes 1 we would only meet them in the final. They are most certainly a rough matchup for us.

We should definitely be top 4, but I’m not certain we are a clear #2. Regardless, a huge step forward from the past few years.

Without playing OU or Toledo yet, I’m certainly not ready to say we’re heads and shoulders above either of them. We’ve had a nice start (besides today), but certainly won’t be an easy road to a 2 seed.

The most important thing that can come out of this game is that this 1 loss doesn’t turn into 2. We better come out like our hair is on fire Tuesday against Eastern. A bad matchup combined with turnovers, not high enough intensity, missing good looks and poor scouting equals a blowout loss.
