Anybody hear of any MAC portal listees? Can you imagine if you were an Iowa State fan….geesh.
This is very bad news. Both Tamar Singer and Ilse de Vries have entered the NCAA Portal.
Hopefully they are not being advised by a bad agent. There are a lot of bad “NIL agents” in the college basketball world.
Dang.
This just sucks. I thought both would stay because of their close ties to the staff. Makes me re-think my emotional investment in these kids.
Macie Taylor also in the portal.
Time to reload!
As of 6am this morning over 1300 women have either entered the portal or intend to enter.
It will be interesting to see what happens for them.
Can they even get NIL money as international students? Wouldn’t that go against immigration policies for their student visa?
Rats. I would not have predicted this.
I’ve determined it’s now just better to assume that everyone is leaving… and then you can be excited when someone returns.
It’s a sad state but it’s the current state of college athletics.
For Singer at least, it would be fairly trivial to circumvent that the same way the SEC used to, with a less than negligible chance that anyone would do anything about it.
Zach Edey famously did not cash in on any NIL due to his immigration status as a Canadian but I think with the money exploding, guys are risking it. Article I read but can’t find at the moment said the major loophole most are using is writing the revenue share contract in a way where it’s paid as a royalty for their NIL. Royalties and passive income is allowed on the student visa.
No not a violation. There are clear easy ways to circumvent it, that are completely legal and above board. You think all those Illinois men are playing for free?
Women’s portal as of 745am ET has over 1450 names. So now, women are no different than the men. Took awhile but I knew it would catch up.
Glenn will reload. Have faith.
I am so very, very weary of all this. As much as I love college sports, and especially Miami, I am about done. Someone talk me off this cliff.
This is why supporters are going to quickly tire of throwing their money away on NIL funds. It has to come to a head pretty soon.
I cant talk you off the cliff because it is the same one much of us are on. The games are still fun and hopefully there will be some structure eventually instead of free agents every year. But I wouldnt bet on it because the rule makers always lose in court
I do wonder if this is almost going to be a fad. Funds will dry up at a lot of places and schools with money still have only so many roster spots.
Still, students should be able to transfer and get paid all they can. Fans may have to adjust and focus on rooting solely for the name on the front.
As long as the haves have money, it will not be a fad.
I look at the new reality this way: as a coach you have to figure you will have no player more than 2 years. And if you don’t play your freshman, it is likely only 1 year. The era of developing players is gone. Your roster will essentially turn over every 2 years, or quicker.
Kansas athletics is projecting a $15m deficit and is using general fund money to support athletics. Some of this is tied to a stadium project but this seems unsustainable for even a basketball blue blood like Kansas.
