Billy Yanks, Fretboard, and Third Eye Brewing are all good brewery type places with food. I have eaten at Billy Yanks and Fretboard and I like both. I have not had food at Third Eye.
The best wings are at Wings on Brookwood - more of a dive restaurant as opposed to the nicer breweries.
There is also a newer sports bar type place called Shooters Sports Grill. Havent been there yet but it appears to be a wing/beer type place with a million tvs.
Fun fact: Hamilton OH won the World’s Best Tasting Municipal Water Award in 2010. I’ll have to give their beer a try … provided they have an NA version!
I would vote Fretboard’s roof deck over Billy Yanks but they are both good. Also, there’s Agave and Rye.
On the other side of the river is Tano, which good but I feel like it’s pricier than the others.
I had dinner on Friday and Saturday nites with an old roommate who lives in between Hamilton and Oxford.
Friday nite was Billy Yanks on the patio. Excellent cheeseburger with a great bottle of red from Orin Swift. Above average Old Fashioned for the pre game.
Saturday note was Tano and the joke was that locals felt it was too pricey. Knowing what I’m used to on the east coast, my buddy told me to laugh quietly, so he and his wife could continue to get reservations on demand. The skirt steak asada was fantastic….the service was impeccable.
I also was shocked to see the dramatic resurgence of Hamilton. Damn near everyone thanked the tur n to the opening of the Spooky Nook sports facility. Anyone who’s ever been to a regional club volleyball tourney could attest. We have one about 90 mins west of Philly.
got Kofenya both mornings. Excellent brews. And of course a Kool Jules too
Up from CVG via Reilly on Saturday morning. Skyline post game, a stop at Dubois to buy a plush Swoop for Melanie’s new grand daughter in Hickory, NC and then cookies at the BLC event at the Goggin.
Then off to Cincy for our first Zinzinnati Oktoberfest.
A last minute win over UNLV would have made it a perfect weekend.
Drove a little more than 1,500 miles round trip. The foliage from Charleston to Winston-Salem is just starting to change. It should be about perfect between October 10-17.
That’s Wisconsin, Rutgers and UNLV for me. See you either at a December Bowl Game or sometime early next season!
I was a VITA tax preparer in 10 years in Hamilton and now go to church in the Lindenwald neighborhood. The change has been amazing, and I think a thriving Hamiliton helps the rest of Butler County.
We are finishing up dinner at B-Dubs in Oxford. I have never eaten at this one in Oxford. And I give it high marks. I don’t eat at any of the locations in St Louis because they are all horrible. So I decided to try Oxford. This one however is clean, wait staff friendly and prompt, food well cooked. Recommend.
Funny you mentioned that. I agree the Oxford one is clean and always well-staffed.
I will never for the life of me understand why the ones in Ohio and Michigan – especially on college campuses like Oxford, BUGS and Big Rapids – close ridiculously early. They called last call during the third quarter of Sunday night football at BUGS a couple of years ago when I was there.
So now they’re ghost towns at 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Ryan Jones used to hold court at the Oxford one and now it’s rare to see any of the players or families there because they close so early.
I actually plan on hitting the one in St. Charles, Mo., next weekend since it stays open until 1:30.
We had lunch at Mac and Joe’s. I never went there as a student, oddly enough. We both got salads. They were huge (the people at the next table even commented on them), and excellent. I got the caesar. The chicken, the dressing, and even the croutons were great. Highly recommended.
