Jax State blowing out WKU 35-6 with 10 minutes left in the 3rd.
Looks like all 3 conference championships will be blowouts with Boise, army, and Jax state winning
UNLV made a second half push but couldn’t get in from the red zone. Boise held on 21-7.
Question is should a 1 loss Army with its only loss to a playoff team get in over a 3 loss SEC team. My answer is a clear yes.
This is the position Miami would be in if we beat NW, UC, and Toledo
And Northwestern
Football needs to take a look at something similar to the hockey at-large selection. The RPI component is very straight forward, however, it is still absent of a “quality of record” (SoS) component. But it would objectively show the farcity of a 12-1 MAC team (or Army for that matter) of making the playoffs. Maybe just maybe BG could’ve pulled it off this year. The 2-3 OOC wins will also get overshadowed by the undefeated MAC wins. Or any other G5 league except MWC
Imo the only way we’d pass 12-1 Boise for the G5 auto-bid would be to go undefeated, otherwise I’m confident the committee would find a way to leave us out. I can hear pundits talking about the weak MAC, below-average P4 wins to NU/UC, and Notre Dame loss as justification to choose Alabama or someone else.
So far, the smallest margin of victory in a 2024 conference championship game is 14. Blow outs every where.
Marshall embarrassing Louisiana 31-3 with two minutes left. Cajuns were 10 point favorites. Sun Belt champs in I believe their second year.
oh well
It’s a nice idea, but football is about putting butts in the seats and eyeballs on the TV. It’s gonna be an SEC at large every time.
I’d love to see both Army and SMU get in. But it’s doubtful.
Crazy thing is that I think Army would be a huge ratings draw. Much more so than a three loss Alabama team…not to mention the Bama Fatigue that I think many casual fans have. Army-Navy draws almost Ohio State-Michigan type numbers, and Army is also a national draw.
Presuming that Texas, Penn State, Notre Dane, Ohio State and Tennessee are in……statistically speaking here is the RPI for the remaining contenders
Indiana @ .90339 ave SoS 63.6, SoR 8
SMU @ .89014 ave SoS 58, SoR 15
BYU @ .88694 ave SoS 45.6, SoR 12
Miami @ .87448 ave SoS 52.6, SoR 14
SoCar @ .86384 ave SoS 16, SoR 11
Ole Miss @ .86283 ave SoS 32.6, SoR 18
Iowa St @ .85938 ave SoS 45.8, SoR 23
Bama @ .85506 ave SoS 10.2, SoR 9
I’d give Indiana a spot and the edge to BYU based on the head-head win vs SMU
It’s noon. Let the SMU screw job begin!
@JohnnyMac Yep. Here it comes!
Not a single win over a top 25 team. They’re on the bubble for a reason, and if they don’t make it have no one but themselves to blame.
Talk to me about Indiana.
Yet another reason why Selection Sunday for basketball is far, far superior to CFP Selection Sunday…
CBS would already be through at least 25% of the bracket (maybe even into the 2nd region) by this point in the show. But ESPN is still in “setting the scene” mode and will be until at least 12:30.
Heck, then-Washington coach Chris Petersen famously called out ESPN in his live interview during the actual selection show years ago and yet ESPN keeps going on wasting time.
Yep. They admitted the selections have already been made.
