At this level and in this league kids gravitate to programs that will get them to the next level. Bergeron did an above average job of demonstrating he could not do that. Noreen has some street cred in this area. It’ll take time but if he continues to show he can get kids to the next level, it’ll work itself out.
Too bad but understandable. Depending on what year the player is he might catch summer school and independent study and finish his degree.Players leaving early for Pros have done so.
And play isn’t the only factor in decisions being made. We need a complete culture overhaul and who knows what’s happening off the ice with these guys.
I don’t want to be mean to anyone or put anyone down but if players, parents, friends, etc… want to talk about production and numbers I would argue there wasn’t any. Our top scorer was a grad transfer who put up 20 points. The top 3 point leaders on this years roster combined for 56 points.
To put that into perspective in Ryan Jones last season he had 49 points. Carter Camper had 57. Andy Miele had 71 points
This year the whole team the entire year had 63 goals. Ryan Jones scored 31 his best season here. Almost half of this years production. It takes the top 5 goal scorers on this team to meet that number combined.
Exactly right. Everyone should read Doug MacLean’s book. He was the CBJ’s GM.
I’ve heard this in similar versions hundreds of times, but he puts it best, and this is true across all sports: If the mom (or dad) is crazy, odds are the kid is too.
At this level people that matter in sports (scouts, coaches, etc.) watch the parents as closely as they do the athletes.
Yeah I was wondering what she was trying to say with this…did she mean Russians?? We have an influx of those coming in. Is she trying to accuse the coach of having Russian mafia ties or something
Like Bonk said there’s somewhere for everyone. Almost all our transfers in the last couple years found a home in D-1 and are finding some success there (and if you’re talking pro, we’ve already had 6 seniors sign somewhere and I could see 2 more coming).
Teddy Lagerback who was a scratch for us very often last season had more points than all but 5 of our skaters this season. Axel Kumlin has more points (21) than ALL of our skaters. Thomas Daskas ended his season playing on Michigan’s second line with a couple top draft picks. Alex Murray has quite literally 10 times the point production since he left Oxford. And don’t mention the captain of the B1G champions and two of the Penrose Cup champions.
Hate to say it but sometimes leaving Miami is what’s best for the player (@ canuck72…). Lots of our players just don’t look as good as they are when they play here. Begging for that to change now that we’re about to see some great players coming in. I believe in Noreen’s coaching ability to make that happen too!
