Hopefully, we are still secretly creating joint partners with schools like UCONN, JMU, OU, Army, AF, etc. for when the musical chairs game starts. Agree, we don’t want to have paid a huge amount and then be stuck looking to pay another huge amount a few years later or be stuck in the wrong place. Hopefully, Miami can position themselves to win this game unlike our BGSU and UC disasters the last few weeks.
The choice isn’t stay in the current MAC or leave. There is no realistic scenario where after realignment Miami, Ohio, Toledo, WMU, and UMass are all in the MAC still. If we stay in the MAC, it will be a depleted, even worse, MAC. That is why we have no option but to try and make sure we are one of the MAC teams that leave.
I’m not saying stay in the MAC indefinitely. I mean stay in the MAC until conference realignment starts, hopefully coming off a string of successful seasons, and having the conferences chasing Miami, rather than Miami being made to pay a dowry for a bride we may not recognize in a few years.

If this were to happen I’d imagine Brian Niccol would get quite a windfall that Miami Athletics could benefit from.
I’m not sure what they’re teaching at Farmer these days, but combining “things that make you poop” is not deal synergy.
Or is it???
The MAC was fine until somewhere in the late 1980’s then money started changing the game. We aired too long, I love the MAC but it’s time to move on. AAC is fine or ACC is great, if they get poached I still think it will be better. MAC simply doesn’t have the revenue potential that is required today.
If we want to chase those Pennie’s, that’s cool; but if MIAMI doesn’t turn those “extra millions”’into investments than I’m sorry, I’d rather see Miami vs Ball State than Miami vs UTSA
Things are bleak for the current MAC, but let’s not glorify the past. We were nearly demoted to DI-AA and zero bowl tie-ins in the early 80s, college sports have always been a money game to some extent.
Yep, remember when Miami had to wedge temporary bleachers around Yager and renumber the existing seats, to cover the 30,000 seat stadium minimum that allowed them to bypass the attendance requirements and stay D1-A? Good times!
