Monitoring the Miami Transfer Portal

I met RedSteve on a few occasions…at Yager and also at some away games…he was a passionate Miami fan and a great guy…Obviously over the years he had other priorities which took precedence over managing the site.

Should have beat EMU. First down-throw the ball long and incomplete, 2nd down, run for a short gain, 3rd down throw long again, punt. Cut to Miami fans in stands- shrugging shoulders and scratching heads. WTF. Give the new QB a chance to succeed. Please.

Read the article on the Miami website about the transfers and again no mention of Miles Marshall transferring. I understand it could be just guys coming in the spring but also just seems odd to not mention him at all.

Yeah not sure. He hasn’t posted anything on Twitter to indicate he isn’t still coming to Miami. His profile pic is still him wearing a Miami jersey, so we’ll see. If I had to guess, I don’t think Miami can announce him until he’s enrolled there. And he might be staying at IU for the spring semester so that he can graduate.

AJ got an offer from Indiana State over the weekend.

I know it is not always accurate and some rankings are subjective, but when you look at 24/7 portal rankings Akron and Buffalo are doing very well. Almost seems as if Akron is turning over their entire roster with transfers. If the transfers pan out, Akron will be pretty good next year.

AJ Mayer has received an offer from Ohio University.

As well as Arkansas State

Butch Jones also offered him at the Sun Belt’s Arkansas State. They had a miserable season last year with little offense.

That could another layer to the OU game wouldn’t it if he wound up going and playing?

I hope this happens

Only 2 schools one should never consider if leaving Miami for football - UC and OU!
(Maybe a 3rd with BGSU)

AJ is a good player but I am not going to worry about clear backups going to our rivals- I am worried about MAC players of the year going to our rivals

I don’t want to come off as an AJ hater, but I have to push back on a few people who are saying this. AJ was (is?) a serviceable MAC backup quarterback. He doesn’t suck, but any MAC or G5 team that chooses him to be their starter will not go into 2022 with quarterback as a position of strength.

AJ’s Dad was a catcher at Ohio U and played on a MAC championship team and in the NCAA tournament. I think OU recruited him out of high school but he really liked Chuck. I do not think Ohio is a good choice, their top 2 QB’s are both returning and are pretty good. I would like to see AJ find a school with an open QB job where he is the favorite to start the next two years. FCS would be a great spot. If you are good enough, the pro scouts will find you. After 4 years at Miami, what he really wants is just a chance to be a regular starter and show what he can do.

Ohio does return both QB’s, but I wouldn’t say they’re good. Their leading passer threw for 1800 yards, 11 TD and 7 INT. I think AJ could certainly compete with their QB group. Obviously so does the OU coaching staff, which is why they’re offering him.

Like any back up QB, I think it’s hard to evaluate them based on the limited sample size you get to see them. To me, AJ has shown enough that he can be a capable MAC starting QB. Especially if given a chance to have an offense built around his skill set, and the reps that come with being a #1 QB.

4D chess. AJ is in the portal specifically to get the Ohio coaches to recruit him over their returning QBs, only for him to not go there and in the process destroy the confidence and trust between OU’s coaching staff and their returning QBs.

4d chess would be a VR headset offered by Chessking if they were still around at the mall. I miss malls.
