A bit of a thread-jack here, but I didn’t know where to put this news… Congratulations to former Miami golfer Brian Ohr (Class of '19?) on qualifying for this week’s Korn Ferry Tour event outside of Chicago (The Evans Scholar Invitational)! He shot a 64 (-8) in Monday qualifying and was the Medalist at his site. Well done, Brian! Charlie Nikitas also tried to qualify, but just missed out at -5.

While the PGA Americas Tour is taking some time off, several Miami golfers participated in The Illinois Open outside of Chicago. I’m happy to say that Charlie Nikitas defended his 2025 championship by winning this event for the 2nd year in a row! He shot -20 over 54 holes to take the title by 4 strokes. Even more impressive was the fact that Charlie tied the course record at The Club at Wynstone (in Barrington) TWICE over 3 days. He shot 63 (-9) in both the 1st & 2nd rounds to make the final round little more than a walk in the park. Congratulations, Charlie!!
Also making the cut were Danny Fisher, who finished T10 at -10, and Brian Ohr, who finished T22 at -5. Patrick Flavin did not participate. Well done, gentlemen!
The Illinois Open has been played since 1931 and is one of the more prestigious tournaments in the state. It is open to both professionals & amateurs, and past champions include Mike Small (current Head Golf coach at the University of Illinois), Chick Evans (yes, THAT Chick Evans!), Gary Hallberg (former PGA Tour player), and, most importantly, Patrick Flavin. So that’s now 3 titles won by Miamians!! Charlie, Danny & Patrick are back on the PGA Americas Tour next week in Minnesota.

Congratulations to Patrick Flavin on finishing T3 (-19) at the CMRC Championship in Minnesota this weekend! He has all but assured himself a Top 10 finish for the season which gets him an automatic promotion to the Korn Ferry Tour in 2027. Outstanding!! Way to go, Patrick! Charlie Nikitas finished T10 in this event and is currently 31st on the points list. Danny Fisher missed the cut and sits at 57th on the list…not bad for his first full year on tour. The next event is in Victoria. British Columbia on Sept. 10-13.
