IMO a lot of people believe they are “big time” just because they played the Colorado team led by Coach Prime in the past two seasons
I personally dont believe the new PAC 12 is big-time but it will probably replace the AAC as the best group of 5. The new MWC will be closer to the Sun Belt- MAC and CUSA
Pretty sure the announced attendance of 40,076 at the Arizona Bowl was the second largest crowd ever to see Miami in a bowl game. The top draw was the Big Ben GMAC Bowl sellout w 40,620. Pretty darned impressive crowd!
P.S. other runners up in bowl attendance was a tad over 38,000 for the 2011 GoDaddy.com bowl back in Mobile, and the 1973 Tangerine Bowl with 37,234. There was also a crowed of 26,000 at the 1986 California Bowl in Fresno.
We’d better lock down whatever recruits special teams had their eye on!
In the 2003 season, we played at Colorado State in what was scheduled to be a home-home in 2003-2004. Ben was terrific, as was the entire team. We won 41-21 in a game that wasn’t that close. CSU was scheduled to play a return game in Oxford in '04. However, Sonny Lubick, CSU’s coach, had the 2004 return game bought out. He wanted nothing to do with Ben and us after a butt kicking at CSU. Ben, of course, didn’t play in '04, but we had a home makeup game in '10 that we won 31-10. I don’t think CSU wants to see us anytime soon.
The new MW will probably be the worst in college football, especially if UNLV leaves which I think is likely, the teams left in that conference are garbage
CSU has been blown out by Big Ben, Dysert, and Gabbert.
Rams fans should weigh in on the Miami QB rankings thread.
Northern Illinois should carefully consider a move to the MW before acting!
The more I read and absorb the comments and articles about our participation (and victory) in the Arizona Bowl, the more enthused I get that we played in it.
Arguably one of the best (if not THE best) bowls for two G5 participants. Huge crowd, Snopp Dogg effect, an announcing crew focused on our game and not upcoming ESPN playoff games, and an incredible trophy presentation that obviously appealed to our players and likely to prospects tuning into the game.
I think we got a whole lotta good outta playing in this game! Also, it didn’t hurt that we kicked butt in the game!
I think we need to schedule a Snoop Dogg home game, probably for Parent’s Weekend.
The only 1 issue I had with it is due to being on the CW and at the same time as the pop tart bowl, the tv numbers were less than most other bowls
I half wondered if they’d play One Tree Hill or Charmed after the game ended. The CW seems like its prime was 1998.
Their TV production for college football is really top notch, even though the weekly product is usually a lower tier ACC game. Always focused on the action on the field and a little bit of the surrounding picture (eg how the game outcome affects the rest of the conference), none of the national narrative crap that ESPN uses to cross-sell its other broadcasts.
NASCAR now is their new thing.
I believe you, was just being silly.
I got a shopping cart a couple days ago at the store that was basically a NASCAR. Wheel was broken and it only made left hand turns. Pain in ass to shop with, but there weren’t any other carts left in the return rack on account of either the holiday season or hobos purloining them.
I wish it had been on CBSS. Had to pirate-watch the live stream at a relative’s house that didn’t have cable.
I am generally supportive of our espn contract because the espn plus is a super benefit and they have better viewership
But for this bowl I was fine with the CW and playing on a Saturday at 230pm MT - because the date (Dec 28) was by fae the best of the MAC bowls imo
Ohio played at noon on a Friday for example
The CURRENT MWC went 1-4,in the bowl season with two losses to MAC teams! They will be a less powerful conference next year.
There was a stretch of time (I think in the 3rd) where they went on about the CFP a bit with Snoop, but at least they were asking for his genuine opinion. ESPN on the other hand talks about the CFP what feels like every other drive during MACtion and the entire halftime show.
