Yellow#5 you will be happy to know I put money on Miami down 10, then again down 13. To be fair, I did place a bet on ODU pregame, as I often bet against my teams… makes me feel better when they blow games they should win. Don’t forget I’m a Reds/Bengals guy too so I’ve done well this fall with that method.
I’m just waiting for theman to pop up with fire Steele
I love you and I don’t care who knows. Belief is all that matters when you are a fan.
9-4 for the MAC men in the MAC-SBC Challenge. Ohio Kent UMass and Toledo with the losses
Yes, that is the case unless he gets injured while playing only a small percentage of their games, which could qualify him for a medical redshirt.
The MAC wins the MAC-SBC challenge 9-4.
I wish one time when he inevitably puts up his antics, someone official from men’s hoops staff would be like “we love you but we need to fire you as a fan. Take care.”
I hope everyone will see time against the NAIA teams. Hell, I should be going into the game in the final couple of minutes.

I forget if it was Chuck or Steele or some other coach I heard say it, but they basically said redshirting a guy is much less thought about these days because (they said it a bit nicer than this) guys won’t be here for all 4 years so it’ll usually be someone else’s problem. Rather use them when they have them here than save a year for some other school.
Per Steele’s philosophy, Waltz was going to get minutes at some point this season, so not sure it matters he got in for a minute in the first game.
Stowers wasn’t dressed, which I assume was due to injury? Yofan had some kind of splint on his foot.
One game doesn’t make a season but this is a really nice one to start off with. Going down 18-4 isn’t ideal, but staying with it and picking it up, building momentum and confidence as the game went on was great to see. But I agree with Coach in that with the experience we have, we shouldn’t go down 18-4 to anyone, especially a team without its best player and another rotation player.
I think other teams, if they can, will play us like ODU did tonight. They will take away the 3 and force us to put it on the floor. Will we respond? Well, 42 points in the paint and 22/27 from the foul line was a really good response. I expect Suder and Ipsaro to not back down and take it in the paint when the 3 isn’t falling. How about Elmer, Byers, and Skaljac? 2 of the 3 responded tonight. Skaljac is becoming a more offensive-minded version of Ipsaro. He has great instincts. A couple of Byers’s drives were really impressive. I want to see Elmer attack people off the dribble and not settle so much for jumpers. The 3 newcomers all added something which hopefully gives them confidence.
Defensively, I didn’t think we were bad. They made shots, but cooled off as their numbers would suggest. They hit so many shots in the 1st half their fool’s gold made them stagnant in the 2nd half. Going zone helped that. Perry was good up top in the zone as was Skaljac. Elmer was great on the glass.
In actuality, the dustup involving Woolfolk was a turning point. It got him going and the energy of everyone seemed to start to increase. A good start to the year, but a lot of room to grow.
The first 10 minutes reminded me of the first 10 minutes of the game at Akron last year. Get in our face, run us off the line, make it hard to run our sets, and start off on fire. Obviously ODU is not as good as Akron, but I do think it shows some growth that we got punched in the mouth, never panicked, and methodically made our way back.
ESPN GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
Steele did say he might RS some of the freshman.
A few post game photos. Might want to tell Skaljac not to grab his junk in photos going up on social media!
Announced attendance 2131.
Not enough junk grabbing if you ask me
Tell Richburg to give it a good grab!![]()
The scouting report said that Old Dominion was weak inside, so I was hoping Woolfolk would take advantage of that. I believe he did, as he seemed more aggressive last night compared to last year. Very positive development. Elmer disappeared offensively, but still had 8 boards and had the defensive play of the game. Byers, Suder, Ipsaro picked up where they left off. Encouraged by a nice drive by Perry in the 2nd half (not so much the one he tried the next trip down the floor). We shot 50%. Made our free throws. Played aggressive defense (eventually) that took OD out of their game. This team is a joy to watch. Hoping the students, alumni and local hoops fans start packing Millett. The team deserves it.
