Miami v. Old Dominion

Byers and Ipsaro are really fun to watch. Ipsaro backs down to no one. I was really happy with the jump in Skaljac’s play. And Trey Perry and Tyler Robbins didn’t look lost as true freshman playing their first game.

Our next opponent is a school I had never heard of Trinity Christian. They lost their first game to a school called Madona. They have one player 6’7”, a couple 6’6”. No other size. I know our scheduling job was monumental this offseason as we had zero return home games, but I just don’t know what this game does as far as development. Work on some of the things like D and assists Travis wasn’t too happy about last night. I guess play our starters early, hopefully take a commanding lead, and liberally play the bench. Since Perry, Robbins and Waltz have all played and burned their RS, I would like to see them get some significant minutes. And Kotecki and Yofan as well. Reward the bench guys for all the hard work they put in at practice.

=>Leading 9-4. The road leg is in Feb so have not won it yet.

To me this Trinity game should be the Robbins and Perry show. If they are going to be actual rotation guys like they were in game 1, this is where they can knock off some dust in an actual game since its been a minute since they played their last high school games.

I’d like to see Luke running the point most the second half as well. Good confidence builder game for him as he wasn’t really asked to run the show much last year like he will this year.

Very interesting to see if Kirby plays. If we are going to RS someone, he’d be the guy. Not sure where he will find minutes this year unless we have injuries.

Waltz needs to see significant time as well. Let’s see what he can do.

One more observation: how many saw Byers execute the “Suder push off” on the defender when driving to the bucket?

Great team win! My only gripe is that the broadcast kept going out and had several issues.

Would love to see some improvements to the broadcast for football and bball. Not sure if they need new cameras/production equipment or whats going on?

Totally agree. If he’s not going to redshirt, he should get some P/T. That said, he’ll have to impress the coaches in practice.

From what Steele has been saying, he has impressed them in practice.

That money was allocated to Swoop’s new outfit!!

He impressed me in practice!

Ideally, we can work on concepts in a game environment. But I remember when we lost to a DII opponent, and we have yet to earn the right to dismiss anyone we play

We can absolutely dismiss this next opponent. We’ll win by 60+ if we play poorly. This isn’t playing a D2 team. The school is legitimately shutting down in 6 months.

Yeah, be so for real. Nothing like that in the Steele era and coming off a 25 win season.

What does John Cooper’s team have to do with any of Travis Steele’s squads?

This is two years in a row that we’ve suited up against Our Lady of Impending Insolvency* and again I ask why for the love of Crazy Old Testament God do we “need” a game like this on the schedule? It’s a joke.

  • Defiance College is also in financial trouble, and it won’t surprise me if it bites the dust in the next couple of years.

Nobody needs it. Unfortunately you can’t get a buy game where Miami’s at in the NET and the program doesn’t have the money to buy another smaller D1 program. It’s a well known and documented problem with NET.

Okay, but if I throw in an extra grand next year, can we at least get an NAIA opponent that isn’t on double-secret accreditation probation?

You joke, but probably:

And a D1 program as a comp:
