Miami v. Old Dominion

In the spirit of new seasons, I’ll consider the hatchet buried. Winning solves all!

Team came out way too juiced up to start and everything that could go wrong did go wrong in the first half. As soon as they settled in, we absolutely cruised. This team is for real.

You have to win 1 in a row before you can win 11 in a row.

If we won by 15 against our toughest nonconference opponent I’m excited for how our record will look going into MAC play

That was more like it. Getting it to 8 at the half was big and then they just stepped on ODU from the start of the 2nd half.

I’m gonna stand by my statement that he’s got a good shot at 1st team all-MAC (yes it’s a stretch).

Again, I said we didn’t have as much depth as I’d hope last year. I think that was borne out by the results, and I proclaimed this year the team would be deep with the incoming class. But you’re the expert on everything, Mr. IU.

The MAC is taking it to the SBC tonight.

Hatchet unburied.

You’re a fool who doesn’t know ball. You said our depth was our weakness last year, not that it wasn’t as much as you’d hoped.

Go watch your son suck at lax

No Miami player committed more than 2 turnovers. With the way they shoot, not wasting offensive possessions is more valuable than for most teams.

Defensive intensity wasn’t quite there in the first half, and we shot the 3 poorly. Picked up on both in the second (with the zone giving ODU trouble). Observations:

  1. Coach Steele said he wanted Antwone to be more of a force in the offense. I think he showed that he will be.
  2. Our offensive rebounding was better, another area the staff emphasized.
  3. We tried to play more uptempo and sustained that pace better tonight than last year, I thought.

It’s only one game, but IIRC we were down 14 in the first half, so made a 29 point swing. Gotta love it!

No Craft, Cooper, Potter-No Problem!!

Miami wins, OU loses.

Let’s do that tomorrow, too.

MAC bad teams all winning. Some by huge margins. But Toledo-Kent-Ohio-Umass all lose

Own the undefeated map. I remember in 19/20 sdsu made a big deal about being the last team undefeated and made shirts with the undefeated map just being sdsu. Generated a lot of hype, we can do similar

I think Luke Skaljac also made a big jump.

Playing with a lot more confidence.

He is not afraid to take it to the hoop or fire the 3 with equal ability.

10 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and only 1 turnover.

We had a nine man rotation last year. Our bench won us multiple games.

We played nine guys double digit minutes tonight. So by my math, exactly the same.

I say all that, to say to you, dude, I l love the bit. Don’t ever change.

Ok, as promised here are my thoughts:

  1. Panic People: seriously, leave this board. It’s annoying. You have no faith and zero knowledge of hoops. You live in fear. It’s gross. Better idea, pop a quallude, and enjoy the ride.
  2. We could win by 25 a night with this line up. We could also win by 3. Can you handle those two scenarios? It will be awesome and stressful.
  3. All D1 teams are worthy for a while. Some for 15-20, others for 40. Hoops is the greatest sport as the parity is still there. Unlike football which is cooked (maybe changes when NIL hits the skids)
  4. We need to own zone as our default. I liked our physicality versus theirs here.
  5. This is hard, but here goes: 9 man line up max. Love our frosh and new guys, but it’s best 9 a night. When we grill the MAC all will be forgiven as I think this team has maybe the spark to go on a run. We are far away now, but one step closer.

So if I am correct, by putting in Waltz at the end of the game, he can no longer red shirt. If that is true, I hope he sees some PT at least against these NAIA teams.
