Miami travels to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to take on SEMO on Tuesday at 11 am CT. The game is on ESPN+, so watch a winning team. In Miami’s first game, they beat an NCAA tournament team from last season and, truthfully, could have played better, yet Glenn guided them to a win. Lots of new pieces for Miami to get settled in, and there really are players on the bench that would, and have, started for other MAC teams (McClure and Blumenfeld). There will be more growing pains this game, but I expect another Miami win. Scalia has to play herself into shape; Tretter got into foul trouble early, which limited her minutes, and Jurjo did not have a good shooting night against JMU, yet made her presence felt as always on the defensive end. She may be the best overall defender in the MAC.
SEMO game notes. I would expect the starters to be #1, 3, 15, 22, and 33 based on their first game, which was a 37-point loss to Missouri State, which traditionally has very good mid-major women’s basketball.
Just a reminder, to take your mind of the never ending Chuck Martin discussions.

Given the start time, I’m guessing this is one of the “local schools go on a field trip to see the game” games.
It’s Cape Girardeau, there’s not much going on.
I think the RedHawks take this one.
I remember the men’s game however many years ago with the SEMO broadcasting asking for anyone tuning in to send them a message to a generic Gmail account and they’d read it on air and 95% of the emails during that game were from MHT.
Well the Limbaugh law firm is there.
FYI Glenn Box is a graduate of SEMO. Game is on!
Miami up 8-2 at first media timeout but Miami very sloppy. As is SEMO. Big crowd for a Thursday afternoon. Lots of kids.
Teams usually schedule these school field trip games against opponents who are D2 or lower so it’s a gimme win. It’s strange that SEMO scheduled this one against a team coming off of a March Madness bid.
Glenn’s connection to SEMO is probably why this happened.
19-6 Miami after first quarter. Tretter has 7. Lamendola who had 24 last game, hasn’t scored. Miami still a little out of sync offensively. SEMO missing top 2 PGs. So refs making up for it by calling Miami for 8 fouls first quarter to 2 against SEMO. Last couple were horrible. Jade for Miami had a clean block and the refs gave SEMO 2 FT.
Glenn is from Cairo, Illinois and was part of a legendary HS team there, 1993 team that went to the state finals. Also someone on the CM coaching thread said Glenn was hired as Miami’s HC with no HC experience. That is incorrect, he was HC at Rend Lake. Zartman now with back to back 3s. She is a pure shooter. 22-6.
Now Scalia hits a 3 after 2 straight threes by freshman Brooke Zartman. 27-6 SEMO timeout early 2nd quarter.
Hell yeah! Crush those kids’ spirits!
A couple of times she had her defender sealed off on the block and Miami didn’t get her the ball.
5 fouls called on Miami 2nd quarter. 0 called against SEMO. Refs keep bailing out SEMO.
29-6, RedHawks over Redhawks.
Teacher: “Kids, math lesson: if SEMO is shooting 4/18, that would be…”
Students: “Pathetic?”
With due to respect to fine folks of Ina, Illinois and Rend Lake College, I don’t put Box’s experience at a community college during the Bush administration on the same level as Steele at Xavier. I’m glad it helped him become the coach he is today.
Glad we’re taking care of business, and getting revenge on SEMO for copying us by renaming their teams from Indians to Redhawks.
