MIAMI TAKES ON OU NATIONALLY TELEVISED-GAME THREAD AND GAME NOTES

Miami isn’t done with OU as MAC Regular Season Champs, Miami University take on OU at OU tonight at 6pm, in a nationally televised contest on ESPNU. Miami is 25-5, a program record, and 16-1 in MAC play.

Miami is currently third in the MAC in scoring (71.3) and first in defense (58.1), which results in a 13.2 point margin of victory, second-best in the conference. The RedHawks are second in the MAC in field goal percentage (45.3%), first in three-point percentage (35.4%) and second in free throw percentage (75.6%). Miami is first in turnover margin (5.2) and second in blocked shots (3.7).

The RedHawks are not just winning games, winning championships and setting school records … they are doing it in a dominate way:
• 20 of their 25 wins are by double digits.
• Three of Miami’s five loses are by two possessions or less.
• The RedHawks have lost just once in the year of 2026 … a one-point last second loss to UMass.

About OU: They suck. Ohio is 16-12 overall and 10-7 in MAC play, currently fifth in the conference standings. They are second in the MAC in scoring (74.4 ppg.) and feature an offense that has eight players averaging at least 8.0 points/game.

Earlier in the year, Miami made 17 three-pointers en route to a 90-70
blowout victory over rival Ohio in the Battle of the Bricks back on Jan. 31. All five starters scored in double figures.

Miami game notes:

Quick note, game is on ESPNU. I don’t think we quite have the juice to bump Duke/UNC off of big ESPN.

I enjoyed watching the men’s team beat OU in the Convo. Now let’s watch the women do the same thing.

OU up 10-6 first media timeout. Miami had as horrible a start as you could have. Miami turned it over 3 times its first three possessions. 2 by Scalia. Miami has 4 turnovers. Hopefully settling in but Glenn clearly was happy with his starting guards as both found the bench early for a little discussion. OU fires up 35 threes a game and Miami has to guard the perimeter. Bailey for OU is deadly. 1000 point career scorer.

Rare to see Singer with a boneheaded play.

17-14 OU after first quarter. Miami has 8 turnovers! 3 each by Scalia and Singer. Miami’s defense has been solid. Miami’s offense is a turnover machine mess right now. Ashton Elley with 2 big threes off the bench. But if Miami doesn’t clean up ball handling this is going to be a rough night. Miami has only taken 12 shots since they are turning it over so much.

I hate rolling the ball in like Miami did. Singer didn’t even see it at first then waited too damn long to pick it up. Scalia and Singer have been bad. Especially Scalia. And Singer on the one turnover should have taken it to the rack herself but I won’t fault her entirely for trying to make the pass .

And Singer starts the 2nd quarter where she left off firing a pass over the head of Scalia for her 4th turnover. Miami’s 9th.

Despite all of these turnovers, it’s only a 4-point deficit. Stop coughing up the ball and things will be fine.

It looks like we’re playing too fast on offense.

It is amazing Miami is only down 23-21 at the under 5 timeout. Miami has an entire games worth of turnovers. 12 turnovers already. A group effort on those turnovers led by Singer with 4 who earned a nice rest on the bench. Scalia also with 4 turnovers. Glenn looks exasperated on the sidelines but keeping his cool as always. Miami only has 17 shot attempts. So barely more than the number of turnovers. If we would slow down on offense and play smarter we would be fine. Just keep it close going into halftime and take a deep cleansing breath.

And another turnover as Jurjo couldn’t be more obvious shoving the OU defender out of her way. 13 turnovers.

Gonzalez with Miami’s 14th turnover and then commits a foul and sends OU to the FT line. MIami has a decided advantage down low and should slow down and make some good entry passes to the post. Miami up 27-26 due to defense. Singer spending the last 5 minutes of this quarter on the bench with 2 fouls and 4 turnovers.

Now Taylor misses an easy layup and commits an immediate foul. OU back to free throw line OU makes one, Miami fails to box out OU grabs the board and hits a three. 31-29 OU. And now another foul by Miami. This is a plethora of errors.

32-31 OU at the half. Glenn didn’t look pleased walking off the court and I don’t blame him. OU isn’t even necessarily forcing all these turnovers although they have done a nice job anticipating passing lanes.

That was sloppy basically from start to finish. Settle down at the half and tighten up things.

8 of the 10 players Miami has played have at least one turnover. 14 turnovers. 10 made field goals. 3/13 from three. To be fair, OU has turned it over a lot as well. They have 12 turnovers. So 26 turnovers combined first half.

I would slow down our offense and start working Tretter and Devries in the box. Miami does have a little foul trouble. Singer and Elley with 2 fouls each, Taylor with 3 fouls. OU has 2 players with 2 fouls. But Bailey Taebling their best player has zero fouls. Miami committed 13 fouls first half. OU 8.

One thing Box can tell them-we have shot ourselves in the foot repeatedly and are only down 1 so play our game, cut the stupid careless turnovers and fouls and we win.

18 of OU’s points off Miami turnovers. So clearly, clean that up and we will be fine.

Tired of Nuria passing up 15 footers only to turn it over.
