They’re not going to shoot 60% from 3 in the second half and we’re not going to shoot 35% from the floor in the second half. 7 points is a manageable margin.
Thanks for scoring updates. Beat the Bobbies!!!
Scoring karma there. The OU kid got away with an elbow on offense that should’ve been a flagrant foul on him.
This is another bad call. That was a shot clock violation and the announcer interfered with play by announcing that it was a shot clock violation.
You can always follow along in nearly real time on the game tracker link from Miami’s schedule page…
We are Arctic Circle cold today. Cut it to five and immediately entered our predictable three-four minute Twilight Zone. Four consecutive sloppy possessions - Ohio back up by 9.
Pull Cooper. Put Dean back in.
Yeah, I thought that 5 was playing well, then we sub Cooper and Hunter in and we lost our offensive flow.
And there’s no reason to not be up in Clayton’s face when he catches the ball. He’s taken almost twice as many 3s as 2s. Make him drive the ball. Another mistake and we’re down 12 again.
Ipsaro and Dean come back in, we score on back-to-back possessions. 64-59 OU with 5:44 left.
What a bad shot by Cooper. Momentum killer.
Anderson playing like the mountain we know he is. Get back in this!
Oh Ipsaro…ugh.
Just a killer 45 seconds. We’re about to stop them and get the ball back down 3, but we go 3-point shooting foul, turnover, 3-pointer.
We had two momentum killers: Cooper airball and Ipsaro shot clock expiring foul. This team isn’t happy if they aren’t fouling at least one three point shooter a game.
We never guarded the threes. 15 of 29 plus another foul on a 3 pointer at the buzzer and they made the free throws. That is 48 points and that is your ballgame. What was the defensive game plan??? Clayton and Hunter are primarily 3 point aces, they were 9 of 17 between them, and they were almost all wide open. They sure as heck did not give Darwishii looks like that.
- 24 for OU at the 3 point line. We gave them too many looks. And I thought OU did a good job of getting into our shooters space and forcing them to try to drive to the hoop.
It pretty much came down to knowing who you were guarding in the 1st half and pick and roll defense in the 2nd half. Our guys need to be better at knowing who they’re guarding and fighting through screens if they’re guarding the ballhandler. Hunter absolutely can’t let Mirambeaux switch out on their Hunter at the end of their game. He has to stay with him. Hopefully we can make those corrections the next time we play because we hung in there despite all of their big plays.
Another solid game for Elmer. Dean has played better since coming back from his injury. I thought all of the bigs played pretty well. Not enough from Hunter and Bultman tonight. And in a rarity, Cooper and Ipsaro looked like freshmen today and that’s going to happen. It’s a credit to them that hasn’t happened more often. And the staff did a good job. I think we were ready to go tonight and we made some good adjustments. The execution just wasn’t consistent enough. When we executed, we were noticeably better than them. They won because we made too many mistakes.
Miami under 40% from floor and three. OU over 50% from both.
Miamis best free throw shooting of the season? Too bad to waste it.
Only 7 turnovers. Steele’s goal is 14.
Not saying it’s “ok” that we lost today, but we just went 3-2 in a five game stretch in which our only home game was against Akron.
Now let’s do to NIU what we should.
I thought Elmer and Dean had good games today. Beyond that, not much. Elmer has elevated himself to the best player in this freshman class.
