Miami at Western Michigan Tuesday at 7:00 ESPN+

Apparently, at least according to that ESPN graphic, we actually lost the game 68-49.

Great stat line for Mekhi. Really playing his best ball now.

I do not trust Western to beat CMU. Let’s beat Buffalo and get to The Land!

Yeah, we’d need help from the worst team in the conference AND NIU if we don’t take care of business. Much better to get it done on our own terms.

Nice finish…hit some FTs, and all the teams that needed to lose, lost.

Ugh…it’s Miami vs Da Bulls, we need more wins…go get it!

5 players in double digits scoring. Great balance

That’s why I laugh when I think of all the haters who were convinced Steele’s teams didn’t show continued growth and flamed out end of season. Haters…haters? Where are you? Oh I forgot. You’ve lost your voice. It’s natural.

Oh that’s right; there’s now a 3-way tie for 9th. If we finish tied with just BG, who owns the tie-breaker?

Yea us!

According to @mz343 in the other thread we own a head to head tiebreaker with BG, but we lose every single other tiebreaker scenario.

So we advance under one of these two scenarios:

  1. Miami beats Buffalo
  2. CMU loses at WMU AND EMU loses at NIU

Edit: BG would be 2-0 against OU, but we’d only be 1-1, which would give the tiebreaker to BG. We need CMU to lose AND EMU to lose AND BG to lose.

The Buffalo/NIU game only matters for the 7 seed, but Buffalo is up big, so unlikely to be a factor.

Traveling for work today so I could only catch the last 11 minutes. Very good basketball at both ends (except for a couple of silly turnovers). We ran our offense well and got the shots we wanted. Another great back door cut by Mirambeaux that came at a key time. Defensively, the zone worked because Western was dumb not to put anyone in the middle for some possessions. Then when they did, they didn’t attack once the ball was entered there. Let’s go get it Saturday!

Couple thoughts:

  1. Anderson, Mo, ML, and the freshman are a solid core.
  2. Kamari a solid 6th man.
  3. JM is as wild as the wind but is going to be such a unique piece to the puzzle.
  4. Lairy. Wow. Just gonna miss him.
  5. Eastern…what on Earth happened. You have Bates who is one of the best talents ever in The MAC, Farrakhan (also great) and one of my all time favorite MAC coaches ever (Stan Heath) yet you get blown out by The Growling Bean? I am baffled.

The goal was to look much better at the end of the season. I think we can check that box in year one.

I must admit that while I was patient and knew it was going to take time to build a team, I was getting a little antsy about progress. These last several games have eliminated that concern for me. The team as a whole is playing much better, more confident and relaxed. The players are also improving their individual and team games.
With next years class and improvement from the current guys, we will be a much more competitive team next year and better each year after that.
