Miami at Western Michigan Saturday at 2:30 on ESPN+

It doesn’t really matter at this point, but we just need to be chucking 3s.

No quit in these boys, which is good to see. Shades of the Vermont game earlier this year. Where we played badly and got into a big hole, but battled back to make it close at the end.

Assuming you’re not trolling, do you expect us to go undefeated?

Theman’s hot takes on this board are legendary at this point, guardhawk.

I leave the country from one day and they go to hell smh.

We were due for an underperformance that we couldn’t grit our way out of. Get over it and bear down for the home stretch before Cleveland.

I hope we learn from this because I think we could easily play them in the 2 vs 7 game in Rocket Mortgage Field House

Wmu crushed us on the boards today- we didnt get a great effort.

EMU might actually better so I hope we can shake it off soon

Toledo losing by 10 in Ypsilanti so we are not alone

They’ve cut it to 5 very quickly

I have made this point for over two years- we need help in rebounding and rim/paint defense. Potter is not the answer- his D is not strong, his rebounding is not good . The rebounding stats today speaks volumes… Every team we face the rest of the year is going to take the ball to the paint at every opportunity. Next year we have to get physically stronger in the paint- a portal rebounder / rim defender is critical

My high level takeaway: we are still a very good MAC team. We are not good enough to run through the conference only losing a game or two like Akron probably is. We will probably end up as the 2 seed with 3-4 losses.

Given where we’ve been, still a great year and we have a punchers chance in Cleveland.

Toledo gonna lose too. We’ll be 1 game ahead with the tiebreaker for the 2 seed

I’m not going to over react to one stinker.

Laid an egg today. Lost to a bad team.

Need to rally on Tuesday.

We have some holes. We’ve actually been one of the better defensive rebounding teams in the country to date and Potter/Woolfolk’s interior defense has rated pretty well by the metrics so hopefully today was an aberration. We will see.

Aside from Craft and Elmer not making a shot, our defense in the second half was atrocious. Not sure what to make of Kam Craft. This may just be who he is. Inconsistent. The problem is if he’s not making shots - unlike Elmer - it’s harder for him to impact the game. Steele has spoken of the gravity he provides on offense which is very real, but on a day like today it feels like we’re better off with Byers.

The knock on Steele at X was the late season swoons. Let’s hope this isn’t the stat of one. I remain optimistic in spite of this really horrific loss.

We are two games ahead plus the tiebreaker

Bad math from me

Agreed. Study the (digital) tape for a day and try to learn from it. Then burn it (or whatever one does these days) and move on. You can’t let one bad loss turn into a bad week, and this team is still 19-6 with a lot to play for.

Steele was hot on the post game about our Millet access and travel.

Say more. I missed the interview.

Lack of access to Millet for the mens basketball team is a time honred tradition.

I dont know more. He said they only got to practice one day in Millet after Tuesday. And I guess he doesnt like 4.75 hour bus rides- that one doesnt seem as bad to me because to bus to cincy to take a charter to kalamazoo seems like probably a 2.5 hour ordeal all in

Yeah. Just curious. The Western trip sucks. Not the worst one though.

As far as only being able to practice in Millett for one day that’s insane. Not sure how that happens in season. Thought maybe we’d gotten past that, but apparently it persists.

None of this is an excuse for today’s performance by the way.

I believe we officially clinch a spot in Cleveland with a win over Eastern on Tuesday. So nice to not have to sweat it out in the final week and hope for a 7 or 8 seed. This was a terrible loss, but it counts just the same as the Akron loss (sans the tie-breaker implications). Let’s flush this one and take care of business in Ypsi.
