Miami at Western Michigan Saturday at 2:30 on ESPN+

Williams for WMU looks like he’s 46.

No it didn’t. Suder was on his man.

But maybe Willis doesn’t get his shot if Cooper is on him instead of Potter.

Dude. Defense isn’t the issue. They’ve held a strong offense to 64 through 7/8ths of the game. The issue is offense. Willis is going to take shots.

Western Michigan ranks 293rd in offensive efficiency. They’re the 17th worst shooting team in Division 1. They’re not a strong offense.

I do think the bigger issue is that a phsycial game can very easily take us out of our offensive rhythm and we look helpless…

Offensive efficiency != scoring offense. They score a ton of points because of their offensive rebounding.

Yeah, so if we rebounded worth a darn and not put our center on their point guard all the time, we’d force more bad shots and have our big inside to take up more space to get some more of those offensive rebounds. As bad as our offense has been, if we would’ve played smarter defensively, this would be a closer game.

We have had good times with the Ipsaro/Cooper line up but today it hasnt been effective

Cooper has scored some but I feel like this is his worst game of the year. He cant stay with their PG and some sloppy turnovers

Hopefully it is just a bad night for Miami and not a back to reality moment

Well, it was unlikely we’d pass Akron anyway. Still in good shape for the 2 seed. No more dumb losses, though.

this…

Haven’t been able to watch the game, but it sounds like we’re giving new meaning to the term “Wake up call”.

That hasn’t mattered today because they’ve out-physicaled us across the board. Western has still missed a ton of shots, but they’ve muscled out plenty of offensive rebounds and gotten the second chance points. Combine our lack of physicality with a poor shooting day, and this is where we’re at.

WMUs defense isn’t good enough where 0 from Elmer and Craft is acceptable. Hope they have the flu or something

Just can’t afford these FTs misses. Awful

Not that we’re anywhere near the bubble for an at-large this time, but this reminds me of the terrible loss at Marshall in 2005.

We should be fouling #22 whenever he gets it

That game cost us a bid

Yes, but some of their offensive rebounding is because our biggest guy on the floor is guarding a guard 20 feet from the basket, a guard that isn’t a good 3 point shooter. If the guard is still guarding their guard, theoretically the guard will have a harder time getting a shot, making it harder for them to get an offensive rebound, even harder if we have our big guy actually under the basket ready to rebound. But there’s no question we deserved to lose this game. We should’ve been especially ready to play given we drilled them in the 1st meeting and they just gave up more than 100 the other night.
