But we hold the edge over Ohio.
Not in a 3 or 4 way tie. It’s based on some calculation where we finish behind them
Unless Kent state can save the winless season by beating them
Doesn’t matter if we lose to BG & OU beats Ball St.
If BG wins, we would need both Buffalo and Ohio to lose in the last week.
If BG loses, it gets extremely complicated.
Yeah, it would actually be better for BG to just beat BSU. That way only 2 things (that would still be highly unlikely) would need to happen.
But tiebreakers are for losers. Smash some pumpkins and we’re in and using the home locker room at Ford Field.
In my history of (and at) Miami, when needed we always smash the pumpkins!
In other MACtion, Buffalo blows out EMU. EMU now 5-6 and on life support for bowl eligibility. They play reeling WMU in their last game and have a reasonable chance if beating them. If not, MAC likely has only 6 teams bowling.
I would kinda like to see a Michigan based MAC team available for the Detroit Bowl so Miami can find a better (outdoor) climate for our bowl game.
I think Quinoaburger found the only scenario in which we make the championship game if we lose. But I may have made a mistake so correct me where I’m wrong:
BG 7-1, everyone else (Miami, OU, Buffalo) 6-2, OU gets the spot because going by order of finish, we get eliminated with our loss to Toledo, leaving the head-to-head with OU getting the spot with their win over Buffalo
If everyone finishes 6-2, Buffalo gets a spot because they were undefeated against all common opponents (Toledo, NIU, Ball St., assuming they beat BG). In a 3-way with BG, OU, and us, we get eliminated first because Toledo, even if they finish in a 4-way tie at 4-4 would be the highest finishing common opponent. In a head-to-head with BG and OU, BG wins because we’d be the highest finishing common opponent. This same scenario plays out if we finish 6-2 with OU and BG and Buffalo finishes 5-3.
OU 7-1, everyone else 6-2. Buffalo gets the spot with that unbeaten record against common opponents.
Another interesting scenario: Miami 7-1, everyone else 6-2. In the 3-way, OU gets eliminated first with their loss to Ball St. (performance against common opponents by rank, they all beat Toledo), in a head-to-head with Buffalo and BG, it would depend on who finished ahead of one another between NIU and Western. If NIU and Western tie, NIU beat Western head-to-head, so that would favor Buffalo.
So I think it comes down to this:
Miami makes the MAC Championship if:
- We win
- We lose, OU loses, Buffalo loses
Ohio makes the MAC Championship if:
- They win
- They lose, Buffalo loses, BG loses their last 2
- They lose, Buffalo wins, BG loses their last 2
- They lose, BG wins out, Buffalo wins
- They lose, BG beats Miami, Buffalo loses
BG makes the MAC Championship if:
- They win out
- They beat Ball St., OU loses, Buffalo loses
- They beat Ball St., Buffalo wins, Western wins
- They beat Miami, Buffalo wins, OU loses
- They beat Miami, Buffalo loses
- They beat Miami, OU loses, Buffalo loses
Buffalo makes the MAC Championship if:
- They win, Miami wins, OU loses, NIU wins, Western loses
- They win, BG beats Miami, OU loses
- They win, OU wins, BG beats Miami
Well done
Buffalo is playing Kent so we can throw out any scenario that involves Buffalo losing.
So it’s win or go home
It’s win.
Losing is not an option! Just win, baby!
Enough of this lame IU/OSU game.
It’s BG/BSU time, baby!
Michael Reghi! Oh boy!
Bgsu only beating ball state by 3
Reghi and Je’Rod Cherry continue to come up with new ways to pronounce Kadin Semonza’s name.
BG’s primary weapon (TE Harold Fannin Jr.) is going into the locker room after landing awkwardly. Not sure if it’s a head or shoulder issue but he walked off without any assistance.
BG pulling away…28-7 early in 4th quarter.
Uh, I thought MAC games were supposed to be played in the middle of the week? What gives with BG and Ball State getting a Saturday afternoon?
