Toledo is in the NCAA tournament as a #12 seed, playing against #5 Iowa State at Tennessee. Iowa State is coached by Bill Fennelly, who basically built the Toledo women’s program into the MAC monster back in the 90’s before doing the same sort of job at Iowa State. Game is at 3:30 on Saturday on ESPN2.
MAC has 3 teams in the 64 team WNIT.
BG hosts Liberty on Thursday at 6:00 on ESPN3. Ball State hosts Belmont on Thursday at 6:30, also on ESPN3. BG and Ball State are in the same bracket and could meet for the 4th time this season in Round 3 if both win their first two. On Wednesday Kent State plays at Syracuse at 7:00. It is not on the ESPN system, so you would have to get it off the Kent Site. Of interest, Syracuse is coached by former Buffalo coach Felicia Leggett-Jack . She also took Diasha Fair, the MAC POY last season and Georgia Woolley, the MAC FOY last season with her. Fair averaged 19ppg and made first team all ACC, while Woolley was their #2 scorer at 12ppg.
NIU, who we beat twice, got a bid to the WBI and is guaranteed 3 games.
Some good news for MAC women’s hoops today #12 Toledo knocked off #5 Iowa State. Rockets will play at Tennessee Monday night. The game will be on one of the ESPN channels.
On Thursday night both BG and Ball State won home games vs Liberty and Belmont in the WNIT. The three teams that just dominated MAC play this year have all moved on to Round 2. BG will play at Green Bay Monday night at 8 on ESPN3. Ball State will also play on the road at 8:00 on Monday night. The Cardinals are at Memphis.
Toledo just got hammered at Tennessee 94-47. I think every girl in the Rockets rotation will be back again next year. Great season, MAC regular season champs for the second year in a row, MAC tournament champs, and won an NCAA tournament game over a 5 seed.
26-8 Ball State at Memphis 21-10. Memphis started out really hot and it was 20- 0 to start the game. Ball state has settled in and Banked a long 3 at the buzzer to cut it to 39-32 at the half.
Bowling Green vs Memphis, the second place team in the American. BG was up 7 at half and up 30 early in the 4th quarter before a big crowd at Bowling Green.BG was missing one starter who was injured late in the Green Bay game and then had two girls foul out and Memphis only lost by 13. Memphis star Shutes punched Alyssa Brett ( who guarded her all night) in the face in the handshake line. Everybody remained calm and nothing else happened. This was the 30th win for the Falcons.
BG will play the winner of tonight’s game between Clemson and Florida in the elite 8 game. WNIT will announce the place and time tomorrow.
