We need to trade MACtion to October with the SBC. Better weather in the south so that they can have November and we also will have no basketball conflicts.

DevilGrad touched on it but I was impressed by how Kent competed. I was at the game and their whole team seemed invested. On a number of occasions one of their players would make a play and he was mobbed by his teammates congratulating him. They didn’t come across as a bunch of guys who just wanted to get the game and season over with.

For those lamenting MACtion I will remind you that our pre ESPN November Saturday numbers sucked as well. I was present for a November Saturday game vs UCF with a berth in the conference championship game on the line and an announced attendance of 5000.

While this trade makes sense in a way- I would hate it because October Saturdays are often the best weather games and November weather would be hit or miss. If there would be a way to do it the first 3 weeks of the year that might make some sense - but that is when non conference games are

Yes I noticed that as well. In the fourth quarter their bench went crazy when it appeared that they returned Brunson’s fumble for a TD.

Early in the game I thought their lines played pretty decent, but we wore them down as the night progressed.

They are really hurting at the QB position. At times their line gave their QB’s time to throw and they continued to tuck and run (usually for little gain). Must’ve driven their Coaches nuts.

Also, amazing how much more effective Mozee has become against MAC competition…it all has to do with our offensive line giving him more wiggle room at the line of scrimmage so he can get into the open field and turn on the jets. Very elusive as well.

Do you think there’s another team in the country that has had an attendance difference of 19,000+ between their most and least attended home game?

Just the cost of crappy weather midweek MACtion, especially in Oxford. At least in places like BG or Toledo you have some local alumni base, but even Cincy/Dayton is having to make an after work trek that is especially unappealing in rain.

Gabbert observation-Gabbert is very similar to the current iteration of Russell Wilson. Lower completion percentage, but significant number of “chunk” plays, because the offense play calling is lower percentage throws, i.e. deep balls, as opposed to safer dink and dunks. This is not to say Gabbert hasn’t missed some throws. He has. Including last night but he also had at least two balls that should have been caught dropped, including a TD pass to Perry. Another drop by Coldiron. And I am not saying Gabbert is Russell Wilson, far from it. But how Wilson now plays is similar to what Gabbert is called on to do. I should also say I am not completely comfortable with this style of play. But last I check Chuck hasn’t called me to ask on my comfort zone!

I would think a 19k difference between attendance is possible at many places but going from 100% capacity to 20% capacity and student attendance going from 8500 to 200 - that % change- that probably is only unique to us

It is long-term issue for us because I dont know how we ever replicate the UC home game in the future.

Embarrassing student turnout. Team did what needed to be done. Can’t complain about a 34-7 win.

NIU will be much harder

Let’s be honest. Miami students don’t come in good weather. And any chance of sustained student support this year was lost when we didn’t beat UC. To think they are coming out in that horrible weather isn’t realistic. I am not saying they shouldn’t come, but I didn’t expect them to.

We need to get over the ego of it already and make robot fans. They fill the entire student section. They cheer the entire game. They start sparking and glitching in the rain. It’s glorious and gets us on the news. The students are curious now and want to see but someone has installed malware and now the robots are evil. All hell breaks loose.

And that’s how the start of Robocop 4 begins.

We need to win out of conference with much, much more regularity while also elevating the program from a marketing/game day ops standpoint if we expect a good crowd to show up to a game vs 0-9 Kent State. No matter the day or the weather.

And we do this attendance thing every year—I know nobody is surprised at this point. The public is speaking, I’ll continue to ask what Miami is doing to listen and gain customers?

Some good news: Mozee now has averaged 100 yards in 8 out of 10 (his 196 last night helped bring a few of the early season clunkers up). I would bet he runs well our last two games and potentially ends up with a 100 yard average in 11 out of 12 games. His worst two games were 11 and 13 yard performances and as I run the average, the 13 is now a 35. Good for him!

On Mozee. I remember at the beginning of the year questioning in my head if our coaches had the right depth chart at RB- but now I am totally convinced that they did. Amos is missed but he wouldnt have the big runs that Mozee has had

As I mentioned above, Yellow; I think Mozee always had the speed and elusiveness to be a good, speedy back, but early in the season against stronger OOC competition, our line was not creating space for him at the line of scrimmage. He often got hit early and is also a deliberate runner. Result was a lot of runs for loss or little gain.

Since we started playing MAC teams, our O line has managed to open a few more holes at the line of scrimmage, and once Mozee gets through the line he is elusive and speedy at the second level. Also liked seeing Downing pound out a few yards and would like to see him more early in the game on 3rd and short plays.

Spot on. A few ppl have been repeating this. Should be a case study by FSB. Basically free labor, they won’t even have to pay a consulting firm.

Also, attendance is based on caliber of opponent. Bring in better opponents and you’ll get better attendance. Nobody wants to watch 0-9 Kent State. I barely wanted to watch it on TV.

Next year bringing in UNLV is a start. As long as we’re stuck in the MAC, I think attendance will always be an issue

We have excellent backs now. Mozee can absolutely play against better competition. He ran for 80 something against Cincy his first year here. I think Downing is terrific and I’m high on Brunson as well. Give us the best teams we can play the next four games as I want to see how we stack up. NIU. BG. MAC title game. Bowl game. Each game is a step up. I love that!

It was raining as hard as it did all night during that field goal.
