Then we must be acquaintances. I do concur with your sentiments - from Shrider on, “just don’t cause any bad press for the department”. In this upcoming search I think the biggest question must be (after getting a Univ. Pres. designated search committee due to the open position at the AD level thanks to the newly-released mess) the following: applying for the Head Coach position means she/he needs employed…but how much does Miami - the student athletes comprising the team, the University itself and the alums who wore the Red and White need that particular she/he? To “love and honor” has to be more than a catch phrase to keep someone from also writing, “of Ohio”. Despite the statistic Lax Daddy shared of only 2 MAC champions in 50 yrs…there were regular season champs, there was the AIAW run, there have been MANY players that would have started at the Big 10s, Atlantic 10s, ACCs…but they chose Miami. This just hurts my soul.
That AIAW run was so much fun. Were you at the Regional in Terre Haute?
I think the turn in the story regarding the departure of Hendrix actually benefits the cause of Colleen.
Sayler has to be feeling some heat regarding management and handling of the WBB program.
How could all of this be going on under his nose and no one had the courage to speak up?
Colleen’s advantage is that she is known to Sayler and to Miami.
The risk profile to Sayler has changed drastically with the news today.
HIs lowest risk hire might be Colleen right now.
What was “the news today?”
@LaxDaddy The onus is on those who did not report, if that is people in the Athletic Department. I don’t think Sayler is to blame if he didn’t know. Now, if evidence comes out that he knew and did nothing then it becomes a whole different kettle of fish.
It’s hardly unheard of that silence could be enforced through some combination of bribery and threats. I 100% agree we need to know what the school knew and when they knew it, but we need to keep in mind it’s possible they really didn’t know.
There was a Regional in Terre Haute? Are we talking the 1982 run under Wettig? Believe knocked out by Villanova? Turned NCAA following year - regular season champs or co-champs but lost in MAC tourney final.
Yes, Spring of ‘82 the AIAW Regional was in Terre Haute. Pam was the coach and we lost to Villanova. My aging mind thinks there was a consolation game that we won but I’m not sure about that. As you pointed out that was the last gasp of the AIAW. My recollection is that we were MAC Champions, I don’t think there was a conference tournament then.
