did chuck announce that in today’s presser?
“He’s going to be out for a while,” Martin said in a Monday press conference. “We don’t have a timetable on him yet, but he’s not going to play for a while.”
LT Vaughan done for year…yes, Coldiron TE back couple weeks…Brett wait n see essentially, but for awhile.
It sounded to me as if Martin was saying that Brett would be out longer than Coldiron but not as long as Vaughan. I take from that is that he is unlikely to be back until MAC games at a minimum. What does that mean 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. 8 games?
Who knows Vaughan is done for year, Coldiron sounded like 2 weeks or so…therefore. seems like Brett out til MAC play at min.
Watched the replay of the second half today. Brett was injured with 3:13 left in the game with Miami not anywhere close to threatening to score. Kentucky had already scored its final TD of the game and held a 24 point lead at 37-13. IMO, given the fragility of our QB and the lack of any depth in that position, there is absolutely no way in Hell Brett should have still been in the game. He had already taken several hits earlier in the game.
When has Chuck Martin ever made sound in-game decisions? Add this to the list.
He was hurt when he went diving through the air for a first down before that. It shouldn’t have to be said, but I guess I will: when a player comes out isn’t always when an injury occurs.
Our Mariners trainers had an expression they considered to be gospel. “You have to play hurt but you should never play injured.” It’s sometimes a fine line.
Simply bone head by Chuck to have him in the game at that point.
FYI- Brett posted an Instagram last night referencing the injury and a comeback saying “just gimme a couple weeks”, so hopefully he will be back for MAC play in early October.
He also says the comeback will be glorious.
Chuck Martin
going 7-5 no matter what
If Miami goes 6-2 in MAC games after another 1-3 OOC start.
MU 1984…
If Brett comes back healthy enough to be effective, 6-2 is in play. 1-3 almost certain…if our D does not dominate Robert Morris and ST and O run all over them, then oooof, basketball practice looks more exciting than the rest of this.
6-6, another favorite of Chuck’s is plausible…otherwise 7-5 it is, Chuck 2112 has nailed it (everything falls in place maybe 8-4 to 9-4 to 10-4?). Who knows maybe 7-5 still gets you to MACC and 8-5, 9-5 could still happen.
I’m still not ruling out that Aveon Smith has the game of his life and we get some breaks (pick 6 or PR/KR) in Evanston…beat NW!
The biggest question will be…what kind of MAC record can we achieve, less Brett completely (i.e., if he goes down again). I don’t think we have any idea.
That would be an improvement over last year. At least with 7 wins we likely wouldn’t have to worry about a random overnight BYU/USC game to see if we might get squeezed out of the bowl picture.
A couple of weeks just might be UC or at least Northwestern.
Why bother though…get as close to 100% for MAC. Let Aveon get meaningful play…work on run game.
MAC looks very very weak this year…Chuck should instill the thought in the player’s heads that our goal is to win EVERY game in the conference, no matter what happens w UC and NW.
