For seven years, a red and white cinderblock building, the former site of Follett’s Miami Co-op Bookstore, has sat empty on High Street. Now, plans have been approved to tear it down and build a multi-use apartment and retail space.
On July 8, the Oxford Historic And Architectural Preservation Commission (HAPC) approved the demolition and redevelopment of 110 E. High St.

1974-78. I also went there whenever I came to Oxford over the years. Time marches on.
Will be nice to have something other than an empty building. Was a bit depressing walking past it; such a prominent corner uptown.
Was vacant 3 of 4 years on campus. Far from an Oxford institution lately but will definitely impact the look of high street

As I post this I am sitting in “Attractions” to most and “45 East” to some. The bartender and I were just discussing when it closed. Any thoughts from the diaspora?

I think Attractions was Jack’s Corner men’s clothing store when I was there.
Especially with the memories of the Boar’s Head.
Attractions opened when I was a student 80-84. Forget what it replaced…
Attractions, 45 East and Al & Larry’s were all on the same spot. Jack’s Corner was farther west on High St., same side of the road.
It’s current iteration is called AL and Larry’s and I just wondered how long that space had been unoccupied.
It’s been unoccupied since 2017.
A couple of times since then there has been movement/work done to the space with a rumored reopening but this is the first time it’s come to fruition.
BTW the smash burgers are very good and very reasonable pricing. Limited menu but I think that’s on strategy. Should be a hot late night addition for students exiting the bars.
The article incorrectly states that it’s been empty for 7 years. Follett’s has been closed for 7 years however they moved out in 2015 so the building itself has been unsued for 11. In 2015 they moved to what was supposted to be a temporary home until the building was torn down and rebuilt. That project never happened and they closed completely in 2019.
I think it would be really cool if a sports bar type place with an open air option went in on the first floor. I’m thinking something like Holy Grail or Tom’s Watch Bar down at the Banks.
