First time listening to Rodney Nelson, really mature.
Sounds nice. But I think 5’8" is a stretch. I would like to see him stand next to Scoop Smith, 5’5" WR. We are the Mighty Mites!!
I am fascinated by what could be a QB battle between Tommy G, Caleb Heavner, and David McComb. I have no idea if there is a “frontrunner” at this point, but curious to see how it shakes out. Let the best RedHawk win!
McComb sure had impressive high school stats in addition to passing and running as a dual threat QB, was a track star with the discuss, etc.
I like lightening in a bottle. Explosiveness was lacking last season.
Maybe the new portal world has changed Chuck, but everything we’ve seen over the last decade+, including the Hesson starts, says he’ll be loyal to his guy and it’ll be Gotkowski’s job to lose. And maybe he is the actual best day 1 starter having been in the system. I would be floored if Chuck moved someone above him. Its just not what he’s ever done.
Even after bringing in DQ because he knew Hesson wasn’t the guy, he still went back to him when it blew up.
I mean, I kinda think you deflate your own point by bringing up DQ. Better guy should win the job. I think that’ll be McComb. One good start from TG should not engender an abundance of loyalty.
Chuck did not have any problem starting a true freshman QB named Brett Gabbert a few years ago vs. Iowa over all his returning quarterbacks.
literally all we need to know about Chuck’s development of the QB position
I don’t think you can fit Gotkowski into CM’s usual mold considering it basically took 5 quarters of Hesson being unable to complete a pass (to his own team) before CM let Gotkowski see the field.
Agree. Chuck seemed very reluctant to play him. After he had that great first half I remember that Chuck seemed almost surprised by it in the halftime interview.
Some guys aren’t the best in practice but turn it on during games (Kurt Warner was a great example). But even if he looked like an unathletic 8th grader he needed to get a shot with how bad Henry was, he should’ve gotten playing time no later than halftime against Toledo
Unfortunately for TG, the o-line completely failed him against WMU and Fresno. Getting the line to mesh (and hit the ground running in Week 1) needs to be the top offseason priority for the offense.
Speaking of QBs… Dequan Finn - Supposedly was preparing for the NFL draft. Rather doubtful.
Whomever performs best in practice should start. Be that TB, DM, or CH. I just want to win.
Also I checked yesterday and Tito Glass seems not to have found a new home. I really would like to get him back in the fold if possible.
I haven’t run the metrics on this. Perhaps this is a spoof post. I don’t know. But if true, nice numbers for Gotkowski.

Anyone sit in on a football call that was apparently scheduled sometime yesterday morning that took place last night? I saw a Facebook post this morning announcing it.
=>Yes. Many of us were on the call.
Summary?
=>Much off the record.
But 10,000 feet view:
- Went over the 27 new players/transfers. Best in MAC per CBS. Got a lot of former All-MAC players from other schools. Some P4 transfers.
- Retained 68 players. 11 returning starters. 16 key contributors.
- Change in recruiting landscape .
- Miami positioning to move to the NFC South (paraphrasing).
- Every dollar donated is matched by the university. - Need $ for NIL, nutrition, additional recruiting coordinators (Miami has a few, but OSU has 100 people doing this), better weight training facilities
- Goal is to make College Football Playoff. A single appearance is worth so much more $ than just playing buy games at P4s.
- Mentioned potential new stadium or renovations to Yager. Needed when join NFC South.
