Football portal 2024/25

I wouldn’t.

This development can only help EMU. A big star active player taking direct interest in recruiting for his alma mater…

This situation and others like it have contributed to many QB’s from class of 2021/2022/2023 not getting opportunities. These QB’s that play 6-7 years that transfer multiple times keep the guys in the depth chart from playing. Henry is a good example. He has one year left and will only play if Finn is injured. I don’t blame the coaches, CM got a better QB. The system is messed up though. This affects QB’s more because there’s only one position for them to play. I think this is the last year for the 6 year plus QB’s. The kids in those 3 classes had their eligibility eaten up by the players that refused to leave. ( which I wouldn’t have left either). Just my opinion.

It’s good to see Alumni want to be closely tied to their alma mater. A lot of this is smoke and good PR for the pro athlete, but I’m looking forward to the stories of who feels left out, the times when the pro doesn’t show up, and the collective $$ they bring in is pennies.

This new hype around making former players “Assistant GMs” is only as effective as the player’s cultural significance. Do I believe Steph being Assistant GM at Davidson could have a positive effect there? Hell yeah, every basketball player under 20 grew up idolizing him. I imagine getting a phone call from Steph if you are a recruit at the level that Davidson is targeting is pretty cool.

Does Maxx Crosby, who’s an amazing player, move the needle at all with current high schoolers? I have no clue.

Agree! This made think the thought I had a time or two. Who is going to support these programs in the future? Had the portal have been available to Crosby, he likely wouldn’t have finished at EMU. Would Ben have donated if he would have left after his sophomore year. Where would his donations have gone? It’s not just the NFL financial success stories, many if the kids will be successful in the professional world. These kids that bounce to 2, 3, 4 schools will not have the same allegiance as a 4 year grad. And to tie in to Ballcoach’s post, I have talked to kids that are leaving a programs after graduation and vowing to never donate a dime because of the negative experience with transfers taking their spot. Maybe profit sharing solves it all and we don’t need their money and support? I just have a feeling that the long term effects of multi-year eligibility and the portal will be substantial.

There’s only 22 guys on the field at one time. If you think you are gonna start at QB, and don’t get any PT, what are you gonna do? Sit on the bench and bide your time?

Nope. This is why the portal works for the J.V.-conferences and second-string P5 teams … I think it’s OK.

Not me. We have Brunson, who impressed during the bowl game and been steadily getting better; Kenny Tracy, who has been solid for us; and I’m really excited about Josh Ringer, who has 4 more years of eligibility.

Best of luck to him in the future. Hope he’s able to see the field!

Would like to see the scholarships used on some transfer help on the DL. I think we could use another body or two for depth.

Both Nate and Danny are leaving as grad students. Danny had an injury year and a redshirt year and didn’t see the field in ‘24. Nate played mostly on scout teams but got in a few games and held his own. He picked up a TD against Del State.

Both deserve a chance to play somewhere. Hoping they see the field at FCS or D2. Both are solid Miami Men!

So you transfer. Then they bring in a 6th year senior. And so on and so on ……

Both D’Shawntae Jones and Tito Glass were 1st team all-state in Ohio. Ringer was basically one of the best ‘backs in Indiana. Get over Amos. These guys are way better. And we have plenty of additional returning talent. Get tired of folks fixating on folks that LEFT our program. Don’t take them back!
