This transfer TE form Iowa probably needs to put on more weight and gain strength for blocking. Iowa is pretty conservative in their offense so I am guessing this youngster wasn’t strong enough to block as effectively as the guys playing ahead of him.

But, he’s 6-6 and obviously athletic based on his his basketball experience. If he can run, jump and catch, he could be a big asset for us.

They’re a conservative offense, but the Ferentz regime has always done a great job at developing tight ends (Clark, Kittle, Hockenson, LaPorta). Leeper may be raw, but the fact we’re getting someone from Tight End U is a high-upside move and a great transfer in.

I wondered if his injury year was also in play.

Have you heard that he has gotten the medical redshirt and is also going to take it? He has already been here for 6 years. Took a redshirt in 2019 and Covid year in 2020. Played in 2021, 2022 and got injured in first game of 2023 before coming back in 2024. If he could come back he would surpass Gabbert and Sally for longevity with the program.

Right now he is Nate Muersch’s size. A little more weight wouldn’t hurt. And we absolutely need to utilize the TE more in the passing game. I think this year was a combination of factors I won’t go into as to why we didn’t. We have some RS freshman TE that could make an impact next year.

There’s a story around these parts about the recruitment of former SMU/San Francisco 49ers DT Michael Carter by Texas Tech. Allegedly, Carter took an official visit to Lubbock on a particular gusty Spring day. Now if you’ve ever been on the Southern High Plains of western Texas/eastern New Mexico in the Spring you’ll know that sustained winds of 20-30 mph with gusts of 40-50 mph are commonplace in the Spring. The winds transport reddish brown dust and tumbleweeds everywhere. The story goes that Carter’s plane landed in Lubbock and a driver was sent to pick him up and take him to campus. Not more than a few minutes in the car Carter told the driver to turn around and take him back to the airport. He had seen enough.

All true on the winds there. Used to go to Wichita Falls, TX on business every now and then. Very dry and brown landscape, but oh those winds! Persistent and hot in summer and cold in winter.

This is the reported NIL deal from Texas A&M that the former Texas Tech receiver is getting in College Station who Reggie is ostensibly replacing in Lubbock.

I would say we are well beyond name, image and likeness.

Can we add a vomit emoji? It will be interesting to see if he still has a personal driver in 10 years…

You know what? Good for Micah. If he can get that deal, go for it.

I agree (to a certain extent) because it is now a free market which is great in some ways for the kids that can get the $$$$, but the system is a giant mess. I would like to see the graduation rate stats in 5 years. Going to 2-4 schools in a 5 year period is not a great recipe for getting a quality education. Will this affect APRs? We need to have contracts that can be multi-year and can even have buy out clauses that pay the school for breaking out of the contract.

Yeah it’s all about the kids and their education.

Not part of this year’s transfers but Jeremiah Caldwell, on last years team before going to Garden City CC, committed to Utah. Also from Belleville HS in MI where Miami has signed some recruits recently.

Caldwell only played in six games at Miami with a total of 6 tackles. Five of those came in the opener at Miami of Florida.

Five against Miami. I wonder why his pt diminished.

Maybe because their running backs were constantly in the second and third levels against us that night.

Veltkamp is on ESPN now against JMU in the Boca Raton Bowl.
