The kid can play.
Then out to dinner with Zach Kittley. Hopefully CM can work his recruiting magic and sway him to the cold gray SW Ohio weather.
Kid looks good. Too good.
I bet he goes to Kentucky. Their QBs sucked and he is visiting there tomorrow.
I watched him tonight and against Jax State. I wasn’t particularly impressed. Not much speed or elusiveness.seems like a pure pocket passer.
He had 300 yards and 2 TDS against JMU. I’ll take him please. And a couple WR and OL
Yeah he’s not fleet of feet for sure. Looks like he rushed for 150 yards and 7 TDs though. I don’t think he started the first game or 2 either. He had a really good year. I believe he has 2 years left of eligibility. He has experience, which unfortunately for us, Chuck never seems to get our back up QBs enough game reps. I think Henry has earned the chance to be the guy but we better have a plan if he’s not.
I will disagree on the “earned a chance”. I think that still remains to be determined in spring and fall ball. I hope Chuck holds an open competition for the job. Unless we bring in a proven portal starter who clearly is the better option than anyone on our current roster.
Zach Calzada just committed to UK
Started at Texas A & M, then transferred to Auburn, then to Incarnate Word, and now Kentucky.
How to we keep Gotkowski if we only let him run out the clock in the 4th quarter against our FCS next season?
Why keep recruiting high school QB’s if we can just bring in a portal QB every year or two? Never have to worry about developing a QB.
Yet our two most prolific QB in the Martin era - Gus and Brett - were both high school recruits who played fairly early and often.
Eh, that’s ignoring both came before the current iteration of the transfer portal. I think it’s fair to ask the value. But there’s a good chance Brett wouldn’t have been starting against Iowa if the portal existed the way it does today.
We can’t and won’t get him (getting all sorts of P4 attention) but Beau Pribula from Penn State would be a great get. Especially for those screaming for a QB that can also run.
I have no idea how to keep players? If they don’t play they are leaving. With no film it makes it tough to leave. Yet they still do. If they play well, they leave for more money.
We had a shitbag client who wouldn’t pay us, so I sent them the Tina Turner PowerPoint.
It opens with a slide that says “When it comes to payment for services, we’re a lot like Tina Turner” Next slide has Tina dancing on stage and the line “We’re a private dancer. A dancer for money.”
Final slide says “Now pay up, or we’re taking you to court.”
And do we think that any kid with multiple years of eligibility that we get through the portal would stay? They will come and do well and leave for money or come and not earn a spot and leave for opportunity. The only way we keep a kid from the portal is if they come here and are just good enough not to lose the job and that’s no guarantee. Just look at the bio’s of some of these kids. There is at least 1 kid that will be at his 5th school in 5 years!
IMO…for a G5 program building from within is the right way and fill holes with the portal. The NIL and portal create problems at every level. Assembling a team from the portal carries lots of risk, the biggest of which is losing your culture.
