Fly the Flag Week 3

“Vandy sucks” was down 28-14 early in the third but has stormed back to take the lead 35-28 with a minute left in the third. Lombardi injured so freshman playing for Huskies.

Buffalo, trailing CCU by 5 gave up a long TD on 3rd and 16 and lost by 12.

Ohio got smoked 43-10 at Iowa State and BG trails Marshall by 14 after one.

Go Broncos! Go Rockets!

…and just like that, BG Beats Marshall 34-31 on OT before a packed home crowd.

I watched quite a bit of this game…I thought Marshall was a slightly better team than BG, but there was no quit in this BG team and they made big plays when they needed to…also had some good QB play even though he was under pressure all day.

I watched the second half. Great GameDay homecoming atmosphere at BG. They brought the Herd back to earth and put a little rust belt rust on the Belt. Good thing! It’s been a dismal day for the MAC otherwise…

Yeah it was another grim day for the MAC, but at least BG took the Herd down a rung…had to really grate their fan base to lose to what they would call a “low level” MAC team after beating ND. BG has really “had their number” in games played at BG.

Miami beat…RMU, never forget that!

Rockets thoroughly embarrassing the MAC tonight…

Not sure you can embarrass the MAC that badly any more as most every P5 OOC game ends up as a rout this year. It’s more of a “group embarrassment” kind of thing.

Thank goodness for BG today…that’s about all we got!

It kind of puts a tarnish on CM’s claim to fame that he has been largely dominant in the MAC the past five years. That gets an eye roll throughout most of the FBS…

It’s weird because in some instances (like today), our team seems to come out ready to play and compete…but as soon as the momentum shifts, Chuck seems to stick his head in the sand. Result: no adjustments, stays with QB who is obviously struggling, lack of imagination in play calling and overly conservative strategy such as little pooch kick offs and not returning kicks.

Zips fall at UT 63-3. More MACtion!

Pretty ugly…

Our ST strategy today was remove ST from game for most part.

Eastern taking it to Arizona State early in the 3rd.

Watching in NC. Taking a 13 point lead and the ball into the fourth. Impressed that Creighton is the only current MAC coach with multiple victories over Power 5 opponents. And CM can’t get one.

Eastern up 9 with 4 min to go.

Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan both get to Fly the Flag as the Eagles become the first MAC team ever to beat a PAC 12 team in the regular season with a win at Arizona State.

30-21 EMU.

Mentioned at the end of the game, EMU has a road OOC FBS win in every season since 2015 (obviously excluding 2020). Remarkable when we have a single FBS OOC win in that time span.

EMU RB ran for 257 yards…EMU never trailed in the game.

All due respect to what Creighton has accomplished at EMU, but those wins weren’t against murderer’s row. That’s not to say that Martin would’ve won most (or any) of them if he had the same schedule, but the only sub-.500 FBS teams we’ve played in OOC over the same span were 2016 Mississippi State and 2021 North Texas.

2015 Wyoming 2-10
2016 Charlotte 4-8
2017 Rutgers 4-8
2018 Purdue 6-7
2019 Coastal Carolina 5-7
2019 Illinois 6-7
2021 UMass 1-11
2022 Arizona State TBD
