Well no shit but I have no choice but to side with the guy still trying to win games for us.
Idk, the MAC garbage this season. I think even if Finn had played mediocre, we could have coasted to Detroit relatively easily. Even a so-so Miami team is good enough this year.
But even in the games we won, I often shook my head at some of Finnâs decisions out there. His heart clearly wasnât in it, and yet here we sit, still with a shot to go the championship.
Except for a few flashes, it seemed to me that Finn was reluctant to fake and keep the ball and make runs. At some of those games where we scratched our heads at all the delay hand-offs up the middle, many times I thought Finn missed chances to keep the ball and get some decent garage off the edge. He just didnât seem to want to run like he used to in his Toledo days.
I agree w each point you brought up. I would also add that some of the inside option stuff seemed to be a result of Quinn changing the call at the line. A few time I saw Chuck get verbal w Quinn after sacrificing our back to a host of tacklers.
Imo he did well at Toledo because the playcalling minimized his deep ball accuracy issues and Candle knew how to keep him motivated. That wasnât the case here.
Huh. I think Finn was an excellent deep ball thrower
I was down at the rail post game at Camp Randall when he came over to say something to his family. He was clearly frustrated with the outcome. He busted his butt to make the touchdown saving tackle on the pick he threw at Rutgers. He also sacrificed his body trying to make the tackle after he threw the pick 6 vs UNLV. Thatâs the one he was injured on. After sitting out the Lindenwood game he returned and played OK until the Ohio game, when it appeared he mailed it in on a few plays. He never played again - and the eventual outcome is a big mystery.
His performance at Miami was enough to help us win some MAC games but not of MVP caliber like it had been when he was at Toledo. That said, we probably would have looked a lot more like we did against Toledo if he hadnât been on the field. Very weird situation!!
Weird indeed, Nesc. Something just seemed âoffâ all year when I compared his tape to his UT years.
Henry has to win it. Thatâs all. Just win, baby.
Not so sure about Hesson. His performance in last weekâs game was abysmal. Maybe we find a new QB on the depth chart.
One thing is sure. I would have to be in charge of Finnâs public relations.
He is really taking a beating from almost all sides on social media for this.
We have other QBs. Whether we use them is a different story.
I would like to see them get a chance to play after the debacle against UT, but in fairness to Hesson, a better game plan would have helped. Heavy run package, quick short passing routes, and forget the âhome run ballâ patterns as our lack of protection and Hessonâs poor accuracy is a really bad combination for those kind of plays.
I agree except that I doubt that Buffalo or Ball State have a pass rush as good as Toledo & that we may be able to occasionally hit a long pass to one of our speed receivers to keep them from stacking the box.
âI like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.â
Maybe itâs just me, but he missed a number of deep balls throughout the season like the first drive at OU. If he didnât have a perfect pocket, his iffy footwork kept him from delivering.
The comments that followed my initial post in certain instances misunderstood my point. If Finn simply quit the team for selfish reasons he should be classified as a quitter. CMâs press statement , however ,was carefully crafted ( no doubt with University PR support ) - CM did not say he quit the team, was asked to leave the team or that he was dismissed from the team. Per haps an agreement was reached between Miami and Finnâs agent for CM to say positive things and for Miami to complete its NIL payments to Finn in exchange for Finn staying silent ( at least until the season is over ). My point is that before any conclusion is drawn all the relevant facts should be reviewed and to my knowledge no one on this site has access to such facts. Further to conclude Finn is a quitter because he has been with three teams is an incorrect conclusion. He did not quit during any of his seasons at Toledo and despite being injured at Baylor I understand he stayed with the team the entire season. Yes he entered the portal but that that does not make him a quitter anymore than any of our former players being quitters by leaving for the portal. No doubt there is much more to this story but I do agree with others on this site that we should put that discussion on hold and concentrate on the rest of the season and hopefully a bowl game. Finally if CM was truthful that the staff had a full week to prepare for Toledo with Hesson they did a terrible job or he is not up to being a starting D1 QB after 4 years in the program. That said in fairness to him he was under constant pressure even when Toledo only rushed 4 ( I continue to believe our Oline has not improved at all and our D line absent Trick is average to poor ).As the ESPN commentators said numerous times give him short yardage routes to work with - also as they noted why not use our talented big backs who can get extra yardage despite a weak O line. These next two weeks will be an interesting test as to whether CM can game time coach and prep and avoid wasting drives on multiple low percentage long pass routes and other poor decisions. For the good of the Miami program not CM or support for the preliminary conclusion Finn was an asshole lets beat UB and Ball State. We need this type of an end of the season to help the program at this difficult time.
Finn has been a problem all year. Practice when he wanted. Did what he wanted. Disrespectful to coaches, players etcâŚ. I never would have believed CM would put up with a guy like that, but he did. Thatâs what happens when you bring in these 6th guys with no incentive . CM has been a master at using the portal. Except for QBs. He has missed everytime. We had a promising QB room a few years ago. However, Gabbert stayed longer than expected, room got full, CM cut a few QBs that never played a few left and here we are. I was surprised at Henryâs game the other night. I think he will bounce back. If not letâs see Gotkowski.
Ballcoach - where do you get that information? If correct I would tend to agree with you. I understand however from the general rumor mill Finn desperately wanted to win and was frustrated. I do agree with you re failure of CM to develop QB,s-The Toledo game was a perfect example - when the game was out of reach Gotkowski should have gotten reps.
I definitely think Finn was a competitor and talented. He was not here for the team. He was here to get paid and hopefully an NFL tryout. These problems he has with attitude were the same at previous schools. I had heard of issues at the other schools and the coaches knew about them. He shoved a coach at practice about a month ago. Nothing was done to him then. So, letâs move on. We have two games to win and I believe Henry will play much better the next two games.
