While I take sources like baylorweedinhaler and FuncleNed seriously, I’m going to have to hear from UTRocketz42069 before having an informed opinion.

It doesn’t change the fact that Finn leaving the team is a bullshit move - but I was told back when he signed that we were able to save our limited NIL $$ for other transfers as he chose MU for the best opportunity in his mind at the time. I could very well be wrong - I would like to know what the source is on the 6-figure assumption posted here.
Going back to my conspiracy theory that he was secretly paid by UT to tank two games and once that was done it was time to move on.
Ok I joke. I don’t care about him anymore. Bring on The Hession!
Nearly 20 years ago, in the fall of 2006, a football team put together one of the most memorable seasons in the history of the sport. This team lost their injury plagued, longtime, prolific passing QB. To replace him, they brought in a stud dual threat QB as a one year mercenary transfer with the help of significant booster money. That player then shockingly quit the team midseason under a massive cloud of controversy. This forced the team to turn to a wildly unheralded backup that absolutely nobody believed in. Against all odds, they went on a miraculous run through the end of the season and ended up winning a championship.
You might be saying, “Quinoa, you’re literally just describing season 1 of Friday Night Lights.” You might be saying, “Quinoa, the TV show was completely fictional. It wasn’t based on real life like the movie.” You might be saying, “Quinoa, you can’t use a made up story from the Bush administration to prognosticate the rest of our season.” And you would be absolutely correct. There’s basically no chance we’re even making a bowl game this season.
If I told you that then you wouldn’t need The Sackman anymore.
Moving forward….. though Miami is still mathematically “in it” for Detroit and a bowl game, to me the season is over (yes, I know, I suck). So now we’re really going to see who Chuck Martin is as a coach. Hesson is in his 5th year and by every indication has been a loyal hardworking teammate, but if Chuck chooses not to use the remaining games to get Gotkowski and Ehrlich some serious playing experience, then Chuck’s tenure with Miami needs to be seriously examined. I think Hesson deserves to start the remaining games, but let’s use these games to get a look at Miami’s possible future with some serious playing time for Gotkowski and Ehrlich.
Season was over when we lost to Ohio Tech. As much as Finn hasn’t elevated the program, neither has Chuck Tomlin’s playcalling
Alright, did anyone wish upon a monkey’s paw that we’d make ESPN headlines last week?
I agree and disagree. I think a bowl game would do the young team a lot of good. It would also call out the transfers earlier and let us know who can we count on for next year
I agree it would be great to see the young quarterbacks so I am not against that
Super disappointing to have to go to a backup QB with little experience who hasn’t show much ability, but we were literally just in this situation in 2023 and lifted a trophy in Detroit.
Buffalo and Ball State are just fine MAC teams. They’re both certainly worse than Toledo and OU.
If we can win those two games and WMU win their two games, we’re playing in Detroit and just like when we played against Finn, anything is possible.
The goal is always win in Detroit, and we still control our own destiny if WMU beats NIU and EMU, which they absolutely should.
Yeah, Miami isn’t ina position to decline a bowl game….PS, neither is Penn State
I think it is more complicated than that. Wmu needs to win both and Ohio and Toledo need to either both win out or both lose one game. If Ohio loses one game but Toledo wins out then we are screwed if WMU wins out because it would be a two way tie with just Toledo
Lord Love a Duck! Just saw this. Did not have it on my Bingo card. We definitely deserve more information than what’s been announced, if not all the gory details.
You’re not wrong that things are dire if we play the next two weeks like Toledo, but this is UB (took a miracle to not lose to UMass) and Ball State (barely beat New Hampshire and lost to NIU). Good defense and adequate special teams can get us two wins and a Detroit berth even with an anemic offense.
You are correct, sorry. Ohio plays UMass and UB and Toledo has Ball St and CMU so there is more involved, but all realistic scenarios for everyone to win still.
Our last 3 MAC championships:
2023: Aveon came in after Gabbert’s injury to win the final 4 games to get to Detroit.
2019: True frosh Gabbert
2010: Redshirt frosh Boucher came in due to Dysert’s injury, finished the BG fog bowl win, then won the next 2 to get to Detroit.
It obviously means nothing for this year’s team, or any other squad going forward, but the last time we won the MAC with a truly experienced, undisputed #1 starter was when they still played the MACC game on a campus site.
Did you watch the UT game?
I really don’t see how Gostkowski or Erlich don’t get some snaps in these last games. Hesson is gone so gotta figure out who’s under center next season as well as holding on to Tommy Carr. Wonder how open Chuck would be to bringing in another transfer after this blew up.
Interesting that the last 3 starting QBs all left the team at some point before big games (Gabbert and Aveon before bowl games; Gabbert had a change of heart) and now DQ.
