That’s truly amazing part…you can win some big games OOC and some in MAC, beat us last year, again without Brett (common theme, unfortunately)…at EMU.
So elusive here for Chuck… CM to his credit has the big MAC edge I believe though?

It is difficult to win when you don’t get large chunks of yardage. UC had 15 plays Saturday that gained 15+ yards. Miami had two.
UC is big, deep, and old on both lines. They pretty much owned both sides of the LOS Saturday. Add UC’s advantage in team speed, especially their WRs vs the Miami defense, and seldom is that going to end well.
To beat a team like UC, you have to take advantage of every error and miscue. Miami missed on one turnover, and only got a field goal on another. Really needed three TDs on those turnovers.
Good luck in the MAC.
This is all true, but remember than NW has won the Big Ten West twice in the last 4 seasons and still has the same coach and staff in place. I saw a line of NW -6.5, which gives us a chance, but still a TD underdog. Still, that is a much better chance than the 3 TD underdog we were against both Kentucky and UC,.
Their attendance has improved by leaps and bounds over the past few years. Probably better than ours now.
I am going to say the EXACT same thing as I said last week. If we had Gabbert we may have had a chance against Northwestern…there is no chance in hell now.
And who in the hell is Southern Illinois’s quarterback? How big of defeatist losers are we?
Jimmy Garopollo2.0
Or was that Eastern Illinois?
That is a sad commentary indeed. Their facilities at EMU pale in comparison to ours.
Are we really saying that we shouldn’t expect to have a chance (let alone beat) a team that just lost to 0-2 Southern Illinois and Duke, and barely beat an awful Nebraska team? I’m not impressed with Smith at QB but we’ve gotta aim higher.
One thing to keep in mind about scheduling is that with how far in advance schedules are set it’s easy to target bad P5 programs for easy buy game wins, for all we know 2027 Purdue could be reigning Big Ten champs or just as bad as the mid 2010s. Of course, when you schedule the likes of OSU/Alabama you usually have a decent idea that they’ll be elite, whereas it’s a lot less likely that someone like Northwestern (who lost to Akron the same season they recently won the Big Ten West) overmatches us even on a good year.
Ok - Miami is going to go up to Evanston and win this one. Period.
EIU. Walt Frazier was SIU but that was 50 years ago in a different sport.
SIU had an awesome tennis team at one point. Ken Flack and Robert Seguso played there. They won all 4 majors in doubles and a gold at the Olympics, plus Mother Goose married the super hot Carling Bassett. Meow. Anyhow, mix it up Chuck and put Aveon and The Hessan mercenary in. Hell, ride the frosh a bit if you like. I don’t care. Just play call like you have nothing to lose, baby!
Definitely, needed a TD on short field TO…then when we were 3rd and 4th and goal start of 4th quarter, maybe a more interesting ending then…
PS The above for 1985UC guy…
PPS Sucks we never have Brett, nor Tyre Shelton 100% or at all, again, UC last two years
They’ve actually replaced both of their coordinators since their 2018 division title. They were successful those seasons basically entirely because of their defense and the defense has fallen apart since their DC retired after the 2020 season.
2017: 18.9 ppg allowed in B10
2018: 21.4 ppg allowed in B10
2019: 27.3 ppg allowed in B10
2020: 15.5 ppg allowed in B10
2021: 34.0 ppg allowed in B10
2022: allowing 30.0 ppg against Nebraska, Duke, and SIU
Everyone here is frustrated. I get that. I don’t think, however, we can overlook the fact that Chuck Martin took over a program in shambles and has brought it back a long, long way. He recruits well, the players go all out for him, and Miami is better for his presence.
As has been stated here earlier wins over Mississippi State and UC in the “debacle” game would have alleviated the frustration on this board. Can we beat Northwestern on Saturday? I hope so, but they are always well-coached, and I expect them to come out loaded for bear after last Saturday’s embarrasing loss.
One more thing. I’m no prude but I could do without idiot 's repeated use of the word “fuck” and its derivatives here. That language doesn’t belong.
Thanks @FWHawk . I’ve never been as frustrated as I currently am as a Miami fan and alum. I have been following our programs very closely since the late 80s, and have seen some highs and many, many lows. We all want this thing to take off. And Win.
We should be loaded for bear as well this weekend, and I trust that Coach Martin will have the men ready to go.
One other item that I feel needs said. If there is a desire to fire up the “fire the coach” thread, and I understand it is out there, maybe @FWHawk makes a great point. Coach was an easy target for me. I have made comments, stoked the fire, etc., but MAN did he ever walk into a bad situation. Miami Football is better for his time here, and I think we all need to be behind him going into this week and this MAC season. He too came in with high hopes on Gabbert and the season. Had Brett not gotten injured, the argument would have been that Coach had given up had he pulled him. It is a no win situation. Let’s face it - the 2 losses this season have been to solid teams. Miami did not go out and get rolled by either. In fact, had a few key plays gone our way in both, we would have had a chance. This team absolutely can beat Northwestern and win the MAC East. Let’s get behind Coach and team now and save the negativity for later.
I don’t think us “getting behind Coach” has anything to do with the team’s play.
Maybe people use that kind of language because they’re frustrated with the product on the field.
You can be frustrated without using such language. The man has a point. BTW, I am frustrated as much or more than anyone here.
