Enough is enough

Just watched Martin’s press conference. The media covering this team are a total joke. Nothing but softball questions. Chuck raved about Aveon’s effort on the 4th & 1 run, starting with the ball at the 8 yd. line and getting within 6 inches of scoring. The obvious follow-up, “Why were you in shotgun on 4th & goal from the 1”, was never asked.

@jeff, yes Martin walked into a horrible situation. But, it’s been over eight years. He stabilized the program but it seems his ceiling is 7-6. Not good enough.

I like Chuck and think he’s done a decent job. Where quite possibly the heat ultimately gets turned up on him is if basketball or hockey start to improve quickly. Because then they will likely see better attendance and more revenue. Right now, he is the only men’s major sport coach to win a championship. He holds the cards until others do better and show winning on a grand scale is still possible in Oxford.

Funny enough, it looks like SIU’s QB has some game. In his 1st ever start last year, he put up big numbers in a win vs. North Dakota St. He was Illinois Division 4 HS player of the year. If he were 6’ and not 5’9", maybe a FBS recruit. Overall, Northwestern’s pass defense is vulnerable and that’s our biggest question mark right now.

True…we don’t throw it very well, and they don’t defend it…need to use the TEs a lot and slants…play action as well as…run, run throw it deep.

Seems Aveon can throw the slant (concerned with the pick 6 there though) and the deep ball to an extent…the outs and intermediate balls not as well.

It’s a tough position to be in. It seems unfair to fire a guy who’s won over 2/3 of his conference games from year 3 on, which is the best record in the conference over that stretch. But if we were to lose to Northwestern, go 6-6, and fail to win the division again, then it might be time to politely nudge him to go after a coordinator job.

The catch is that I don’t know who we’d be able to get that would be better, given the financial constraints. Basically any decent P5 coordinator would have to take a pay cut for this job.

We convince 11 Urban’s and Spices to come back to the MAC where it all began.

We can be the Cradle and the Grave of Coaches. (OK - that is not funny……)

For all those who find my language upsetting, Uncalled for, and juvenile, I apologize. I really just Can’t begin to tell you how frustrated it’s been, and Kam Butler’s transfer was the last straw.

You know, I have traveled all across this country Over the last decade watching Miami. It’s been Useless watching this team in September.

@Idiot your cursing, my over-analytical rants, others quickly going to Fire Chuck, still others just tuning out - this is all one thing: FRUSTRATION. The positive is that we all love MU football. It is coming from a good place.

Is anyone else tired of the same discussions every September?

And sometimes October and November.

Hipp finds and catches deep balls. Those will continue to be there if we can develop some regular offense

It’s the CM Prevent Offense.

Agreed…need to go run heavy offense with play action to Hipp.

NIU of early mid 2000s.

QT? I’m not too swift at really breaking down a game and get the big picture of what’s happening. Typical watch the qb and ball sort of fan.

1st quarter we moved the ball really well. Had some short fields and that helped but managed to make progress.

Question to the analysts out there…did we get away from what we were doing or did UC adjust and take it away (and then any adjustments we tried just didn’t work)???

I think your answer is in the first couple of minutes of Aveon and McWood’s post game press conference. I don’t know how to better explain

BYB - I heard utter frustration.

And I think most of us would argue that Chuck inherited a worse situation in 2014 than Creighton did.

It’s not as if Miami was put on the death penalty. You got 2 years grace, heck even go with 4, and you still have an abysmal record outside of the MAC. That’s really what we’re going to shoot for? And let’s not forgot he’s the beneficiary of a HUGE improvement in facilities that some in the MAC haven’t yet matched.

Geoff Collins had to take over at GA Tech and replace an entire offensive system. To me someone like him gets more of a pass since everyone was recruited for that offense.
