Miami lost to Kent 68 to 61 in the MAC tournament about a week and a half ago and earned a bye and a home game in the WNIT. We had a season low 8 turnovers. GS guard Maya Chandler had 23 points. All MAC honorable mention post Amber Tretter had 12/11. First team All MAC guard Enjulina Gonzalez had 12 points. She entered the transfer portal as did top guard sub Cori Lard. I have a different opinion on playing them in this game than my close friend Grumpy, but that decision belongs to the girls, their coach, their family and possible agents. Personally I hold no animus to the girls who are entering the portal and I like the idea of the finishing the season with their friends and teammates. Miami has only had 5 teams who have won 20 games and hitting that mark with a win would be quite an accomplishment for this team.
Miami men and women have combined for 44 wins which ties the all time Miami record. Also, when combined with our football team’s 9 wins it gives us 53 wins in our 3 longest top programs which ties a school record of 53.
All time Miami record. 53 combined wins. 2003-2004 school year
Football 13 wins. Terry Hoepner, Big Ben’s final year.
Men’s basketball. 18 wins. Charlie Coles
Women’s basketball. 22 wins. Maria Fantanarosa
There’s a whole genre of absolutely insane build-a-bears executions out there (don’t ask!) that you can Google before you go. Bring home something off!
Enjulina would have probably made a huge difference for us today. Her ball handling skills, speed and basketball instincts allowed us to play on a level higher than we actually were.
