Sorry, but that’s so selfish. I don’t love it, but I get it when a football player doesn’t want to play in a bowl game as they’re entering the draft. But the risk of major injury in college basketball is much lower. Way to abandon your teammates after a very good season.
Funny. She and Craft both shot a promo, and both are in the portal.
I just do not understand why all portal action…meaning announcing you want to go into it AND all coaching firing and hiring should NOT occur until the day after the National Championship game! Otherwise, as Gino A. said in the news conference…and I’m summarizing, stop the “student-athlete” hoax, treat them as employees and make them sign contracts. NCAA needs to clean this mess up. There is no loyalty to team and school, no warm, fuzzy feeling hoped for when visiting a campus for the first time, no focus on what that academic degree will mean in 20 yrs, only NIL possibilities and what’s in it for me. You can see this play out in games at the highest level…last night’s loss of Ohio State to Tenn. The attitudes aka sportsmanship and lack thereof even showed in the line at end of game. I hardly enjoy watching what college women’s basketball had become. In the stands at mid major schools there are “talent scouts” that are later getting in a star player’s head that she needs to move on and join the portal. Sick.
@missmiami I understand your feelings about all of this but you are yearning for a time that has passed and likely isn’t coming back. I talked to a former player before the WNIT game and she said the optics would be better if players would wait until their team’s season is officially over before announcing they are going into the portal. She said agents are urging players to announce early to get their names out there, believing doing so gives them an advantage with coaches looking for players.
It sucks that Enjulina is leaving and opted not to help her teammates in the WNIT. But I have confidence Coach Box will find a scorer in the portal.
Agents care about one thing, getting their percentage of the payout. Not the degree, not the relationship the player has with their teammates, coaches, fans. How you leave effects a lot of people, and the player should be thinking about the responsibility they should have to all those people who were tight friends all working together for certain goals. Personally, I have no problem with any of the 4 girls who entered the portal, I can see some good reasons for each of them to leave. I do think Cori and Enjulina owed it to their friends and teammates to finish the season together. They kind of let the other girls and the coaches and even the fans down. Learning the value of being selfish and putting yourself ahead of those around you is a bad look. Waiting until the season is over would not have cost them anything. It just would have shown appreciation to those around them.
