Miami record of 123 points definitely in reach
Luers with 15.
Itâs a warm-up, get the cobwebs off game for us and probably a meaningful little payday for them. It hopefully gets us ready for the MAC on Saturday.
New record with over 7 minutes left, they make make it unbreakable
Were the fourth D1 theyâve played this season. Itâs obviously how theyâre financing their program.
âŚand maybe the entire University!
141 points, shattering the previous record of 123. For what itâs worth Toledo scored 111 vs Defiance
Embarrassing to me to be playing a team of this caliber, and then pouring it on.
I get the tune up factor, but it does seem kinda odd for a full scholarship D1 team play a non scholarship D3 team.
Does it even count (as a record) when done against a D3 team?
Pouring it on? Our starters played 16, 16, 16, 14, and 11 minutes.
Luers, who usually plays 0 minutes a game (or a handful at most) put up 20 points.
This was just a miserable opponent. Purdue FW, Toledo, and Cornerstone Michigan (whatever that is) have all also dropped 100 on them. Michigan-Dearborn and Madonna (unclear if the pop icon or a college) have dropped 90+ on them.
Theyâre not D3. Theyâre NAIA. They beat Miami Middletown. We play one or two D3 teams almost every year. The only one we lost to was Wilmington.
Whatever
Almost every mid major teams (especially the MAC) plays these games. Yesterday Kent state was in a real fight with a D3 team and nearly lost.
UNCW played Mount Olive College early this season and -like Miami -played Spartanburg Methodist Saturday as a warmup before CAA starts this weekend. They are 10-3 with losses at Kansas, Colgate and Howard.
Most of the ACC teams play mid-majors as warmups or pre-conference prep gamesâŚ
I hate D3 games. Absolutely useless. Play a shitty D1 or D2 school and it will be better prep for Buffalo than a cakewalk. Thereâs gotta be a balance. Also, we could play MU Hamilton and get the same result. Wouldnât cost us as much either Iâd imagine.
San Jose played Life Pacific and Lincoln (CA). Itâs a thing with many mid-majors.
Was anyone here on the call when this game was scheduled? I suspect Sayler didnât say, âLetâs play the worst team we can findâ. Iâm guessing there are a lot of teams heâd like to play, but they wonât come here between Christmas and New Years. Defiance probably approached Sayler and he didnât think to ask how bad they were going to be.
Beat Buffalo.
Miami paid defiance $4,500 for this game, compare that to the $80,000 they paid sacred heart
I get it. Scheduling is hard for a gazillion reasons. All Iâm saying is D2 or shitty D1 is a better opponent. If possible. No disrespect to the athletic department or the team we beat intended. I sorta wonder if you couldnât go to the schools around us like Orville and Wilbur U, X, UC, Dayton, NKU and get a scrimmage. Might do more. Not like we made any money on ticket sales.
Me? If you have no opponent, get the menâs and womenâs team to combine squads and do a charity fundraiser against Dayton combined menâs and womenâs team. Would be more fun to watch.
