Miami finishes the out of conference portion of the season with a matchup against the Defiance College Yellow Jackets, an NAIA school in Defiance, Ohio, located in the upper left corner of Ohio, where Dick knows about pretty much every girl who ever played high school bball. Game is Monday at 7pm.
Defiance has a 3-9 overall record, 1-6 in the conference and 0-4 on the road. They recently lost by 51 to Purdue. Purdue Fort Wayne, in an exhibition game. Most of the players are from Ohio, many from northwest Ohio, where Dick knows pretty much every coach.
Notable alums include mainly John Ashton, Detective Taggart in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise. Also, no pro wrestlers, but a suspected serial killer, John Brennan Crutchley, the “Vampire Rapist”.
DISCLAIMER: in no way does the author endorse serial killing, nor does he infer that the Defiance team includes serial killers. The Yellow Jackets are a legitimate NAIA team that plays in the Hoosier-Wolverine Conference, which makes no sense, but whatever. They should not be lumped in with Bethany or UMES.
This team is bad, even by non-D1 standards. They lost 111-49 to Toledo, and this isn’t even a great year for the Rockets. They also gave up 118 to a school in Michigan called Cornerstone. Should be an opportunity to get everyone some minutes.
I get the walk-on, show mercy thing, but the first MAC game is Saturday. I’m guessing Steele wants to put every minute of this game to good use. The walkons won’t be playing against Buffalo.
