Chuck Martin's Record

Well, Chuck won a game Saturday. He is now only 2 under .500 (75-77). Chuck had better learn how to stop late drives (UC, BG, UMASS) or this season will become a complete disaster. UMASS 3rd string QB went 6 for 6 and 90 yards to score a TD with 1 second on the clock. The 2 point conversion play was an excellent choice; unfortunately for UMASS it got blown up. Had the runner eluded McCain, he would have easily tossed the ball to a wide open QB in the end zone.

Glad to see the Miami Student jump on our bandwagon. As for a legend, it is only in Chuck’s mind.

Or, to put it another way, fortunately for Miami McCain blew it up and the UMass OL didn’t do its job. The Philly special takes time to set up after the snap. The OL has to give the play time to develop.

We seem to be going to some type of “prevent” D late in these games and it’s been ineffective.

Aren’t we in a “prevent” defense all the time?

Prevent to Win D!

We’re definitely in a “prevent offense” any time we have a lead, regardless of the size of the lead.

We know where the brakes are. We just can’t find the gas pedal.

We are in year 13. Including this past weekend. Chuck’s overall record is 75-77. So .493 winning percentage. Double digit wins once, 11 wins in 2023. Only 8 or more wins twice, 2019 (8-6), and 2024 (9-5). Bowl record: 2-5. Think this makes us attractive to the AAC? Even if this is only a fraction of the picture the AAC looks at, you think this helps?

James Madison from 2022-2026 (so including games of this year), is 46-11. Including losing a coach. Miami in that same time frame is 36-25. 1-3 in bowl games.

Culture may matter there. JMU is used to winning.

Oh, I never thought of that…smiling…and crying at the same time.

We have a culture, if mediocrity is a culture.

In those 5 years, JMU is 2-3 against power conference teams. We’re 2-8 against power conference teams. We’ve also each beaten 1 ranked team, 0 power conference ranked teams.

Does Miami Football have an unusually high injury rate? It’s our main issue annually,it seems?

More of Chuck’s record: Our biggest rivals are Cincinnati (1-11) and Ohio U (4-8). Prior to CM Mimai was 7-3 in Bowl games. Those included wins over Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Arizona State, Texas Tech, and Louisville. CM is 2-5. Losses include Alabama Birmingham and Appalachian State.

I know CM inherited a mess from Treadwell but it took him 6 years to have a winning season. Any other school would have fired him after 4 or 5.

UC record should be better . ZERO excuse for 2017 AND 2026 plus one season D allowed a TD with a little over a minute left to lose 34-31

I think rumored move to AAC may have some impact on the future of CM. Just a guess.
